The pa fabc,  should be ashamed of themselves.  The road leading to the only launch is a real mess i got a flat last yr, on the trailer in that 1 mile streach.  Wheres the money going?????/  Great place to fish but no monies are going there oviously.  If i get time im going to question this  what a waste

Maybe make a call for action and see if you can get a few people to volunteer? Perhaps a guy who works for a company that has access to machinery that could be used to repair the road. With budget cuts not much is getting done... And there are a lot of roads, boat ramps and other things us fisherman use that certainly need work!

There is another launch at the upper end of the lake but its about 50 yards of backing up if i remember right. Haven't used it for years buts its there.

That road is a joke and i doubt if its going to get any better. The shale/gravel/whatever they used to fill the holes does help a little bit though but it doesn't seem to stay put very well.

While wading the deeper end this weekend saw 3 nice size walleye that didn't survive the spawning season.

Been like that forever u would think they would do something.  i think that place is going to the dogs the fabc, dont care about it and i think in the next few years there will be houses on that lake.  They will bury it and forget about it...

I know the road sucks but is anyone catching any catfish there yet? I'm probably going to get out there sometime in the next week or so,,hopefully while gas is still under five bucks.

I've been up there 6 or 7 times since saturday and i haven't seen a catfish caught yet. Really hasn't been a whole lot of guys out any of the times i stopped there. Crappies have been found one evening then they moved back out from shore. Still trying to find them again.

Saturday around noon the surface water temp. was 59.7 when i pulled the boat on the trailer if that helps at all. Carp have been jumping also but i haven't noticed any near shore yet.

Well,,this isn't very technical but usually when the water is close to being wadable with old shoes on and no boots,,thats when the cats seem to get on the move. At least at some other places it was,,,thanks

When i launched saturday morning i took my shoes off and rolled my pant legs up to launch and waded out past my knees. The water wasn't to cold but its to cold to stand in for long.

I fished the 219 side this morning for crappie and caught some. First time i caught any females but still none over 10 inchs. There are bowfin's spawning around the dead reeds this morning. Probably saw 3 pair at different spots.

If i remember this evening i'll ask at roof garden about smelt after i'm done fishing.

I finally remembered to stop and look for you. They had about 20 bags in the freezer right by the check out. They were whole and probably 20 to 25 5 to 6 inch ones in the bag for $6.99.

I'd recommend their store for anyone looking for bait. They don't always have everything as the season winds down but they are good people and its only about a mile from the lake. I'm not sure if they carry minnies though.

Thanks for the info,,they're about to have a few less bags thanks to you! I'm itching to get out there and give the pike and cats a try. Maybe I'll locate some of those crappies if I do I'll let you know.

I caught my first cat there a couple weeks ago...about a 4 lb channel cat.  Caught it on corn while trying for carp in the upper end of the lake.  I'm usually out there a couple times a week...caught a few bass as well, but no carp yet.

Caught several crappie in about 1 foot of water saturday morning, the bite seemed to only last an hour or so for me, had I had my boat it may have been different. I saw alot of guys working the shoreline opposite the boat launches most of the morning. Anyone else out at somerset?

I've only caught a few each trip in the past week. I did catch my first channel cat this year today while casting from shore for walleyes if your still interested in them.
When i checked the surface water temperature on monday it had dropped about 8 degrees from what it was near the end of april.

I've either caught near limits of crappies each trip up or less than 5 at other times. No trips with results in the middle. I think some steady nice weather for a couple of days would help. In the past couple of days the shad/herring or whatever are on the shoreline weeds by the thousands

Yeah I'm going to make another trip out for catfish soon, this time I'm going to head up to the other end of the lake in deeper water. Maybe try along the spillway side or out in front of the pier. The limits of crappie your getting are they decent sized, only a few of the ones I caught were keepers I guess. I did have one really big one come off. What was the size of the channel you nailed?

I measure them against my hand spread and i try to make them be at least 9 1/2 but i'm sure i've thrown some in shorter.

The channel cat might have been 18 inchs but i caught it on a ultra light outfit and it really but up a good fight. I caught it on a small gold daredevil.

I was probably lucky to get maybe 4-5 that were close to 9inch, besides the one freaky big one that came off.
The next trip will probably be at night, I only fished it one night all last year in august and had alot of action for about 3 hous or so,,nothing real big, but I know they're in there.

Stealys:  I'm sure you'll be happy to know that although the fish comission hasn't been able to fix the road to the launch because they have no money, today i saw they have been able to afford to tear up the road to the office building. They must have found some money somewhere to fix it as its ready for a new layer of asphalt or whatever.

That road to the office must have gotten to rough for all their new 4 wheel drive vehicles to get back into. It must be at least 100 yards back to the building.

Before anyone thinks i am picking on the pfc i worked for the state for 30 years and anything the state does, does not amaze me.

Fished the lake this morning by boat and did ok.  The crappie bite was slow got one it was nice 12 incher, got one channel cat nice fish 22 inchs, got 2 walleye one 13, and one legal one 16 and a half also got one perch that was 11 inchs.  Had something on that just about had the rod out of the boat had i hooked for 10 seconds and it was off.  Had  a walleye rig on not sure what it was.  Very windy and cool today when i was leaving a few of the shore people were starting to pick up some crappies with minnies.

I took the boat up after lunch today. I only caught 1 short walleye and 2 small perch. Did have 2 nice hits on crawler harness but never really hooked either.

Talked to another fellow in a boat who caught a 16 inch walleye and a channel cat. Any chance you were still there around 4:30. Maybe that was you i talked to? Drifting with the wind up by the breast on the east side

That was me. I went back up this morning and caught 3 short walleyes, 1 channel cat, 2 crappies and 2 perch and a bluegill. Talked to one other fellow who had a 16 inch walleye. Wasn't quite as windy but cold when the sun wasn't shining. Really weren't many guys out.
