Status: offline 		Anyone know if the upper stretch of Sewickley creek near Norvelt in Unity TWP got stocked in the pre-season for opening day?  I noticed on the fish commission's website only an inseason stocking was posted.  Thought maybe the preseason date was left out by mistake.  Anybody know anything?

Status: offline 		Are there pike in Sewickley Creek. I have heard these rumors for years and done a fair amount of fishing on it (though far below where the trout are stocked). While I have caught a surprisingly wide variety of species I have never gotten or seen a pike.

BTW, this stream is a jewel in the rough. If we can ever get Brinkerton and a few other discharges cleaned up it'll be famous.

Status: offline 		Was just down there today, right at the bridge, around 10 am, caught a nice sized (12-14") rainbow on a white trout magnet (which might imply a pre-season stocking), but no sign of any pike...where do they like to hang out and what do they hit?  I've only ever caught one pike before, and even at that, it was more an accident than by design.  It fought like hell though, so I'd love to hook a few more.

Sewickley Creek upstream from the Brinkerton discharge is a quality trout fishery and yes does hold a few pike.  Downstream from Brinkerton and throughout the middle section it is badly polluted from mine acid dishcharges.  The worst by far are the brinkerton discharge and Jacks Run which flows into Sewickley at Youngwood. However as you get further downstream, the water quality improves dramatically and unless there has been alot of rain and flooding occurs upstream, the creek flows almost clear into the Yough river at Gratztown. (about 2 miles from my house) As Shemanese said, there are alot of people working really hard to clean up the remainder of the discharges, mostly in the middle section of the watershed.  A major project was completed in Lowber a few years ago, that eliminated probably one of the worst discharges in the entire state, let alone the Sewickley Creek watershed.  This project was at the old Marchand Mine site at Lowber where up to 8,000 gallons of mine acid a minute used to drain directly into sewickley creek.  They are attempting to implement the same system on Wilson Run along the the turnpike between Donegal and New Stanton.  Others who say the creek is a gem are right and hopefully in the future the entire watershead will be a quality fishery.

Status: offline 		I thought they were musky, they didnt really look like a pike to me but i didnt get a great look at them, I know were the honey holes are and let me tell you there are some monster carp and pIke/musky in there

Status: offline 		I have fished Sewickly creek for years and have always done well.  I also remember when little Sewickley creek was stocked with trout back in the early 90's from just above Hermine by the SNPJ club down to the mouth at big Sewickley.  I have not even thought of hitting some of my old spots on the little Sewickley but I may try this sometime I am bored and have nothing else to do I would bet there are still some nice fish in there.  This is a already a great creek today but with some more work it will be one of the top creeks on this side of the state.

Status: online 		There has to be decent fish population in nasty areas also, There is a colony of Blue Herons between Waltz Mill and Yukon ,Last count there was 12 nesting Pairs in a huge Sycamore tree.
Damn birds made Me have to put a net around my pond, If they eat once they will be back till the fish are gone. I got a decoy seems to keep em away.

This section of Sewickley has some fish. From what I have observed the population varies wildly from year to year. Some years I have actually taken to seining it for bait collection because the fish were that numerous. Other years we get skunked.

Back to the herons; one year my son and I were seining under that big nest tree. The birds were going crazy, screaming at us like dinosaurs and they actually started throwing pieces of fish down at us.

I have always found that the fishing starts to pick up remarkably once one gets below the covered bridge. By the time you get to the Little Sewickely the mine drainage effects have greatly dissipated.

Status: offline 		I can tell you this, there was pike in Sewickley Creek 25 years ago in the Hutchinson area, still are today. Also the area outside of West Newton on the Sewickley holds sauger, walleyes and some huge bass.

I stopped for about an hour yesterday at one of my (and many others) spots in Lowber and the water looked really good and had some nice color and lets just say the fish were active.
