you're welcome to cheer but that's the only crowd participation that's allowed
unless you wanna try this

actually, they are looking for refs, if you can skate. rollerblades are allowed for refs
you should be able to apply or send for more info on the steel city derby demons site.

I would'nt call them much of a team but it would be more entertaining to watch roller derby than the cryers. All due respect, the flyers f-ing suck.

well, there isn't anymore studio wrestling moves, but some teams do allow/encourage fighting. SCDD doesn't.

I'm on the "Fresh Meat Squad" I get tested next week and then, as long as I pass my tests, I'm eligible to be drafted to a team.
I've learned how to fall properly, and bought really good gear, so no more injuries so far

Cool, go for it.

If I'd have gotten my face broken like yours was, I'd not be going back at it.

most people say that... but really, it never occured to me not to keep trying.
my husband asked me that right after I found out that my cheekbone was broken and my response was "if you got hurt playing a sport, would you quit?"
I'm not really an athletic type of person, but this is just something that I really want to do and I'm determined to give it my best shot

Good for you.

I'm not old or nothing, 37, but at this point, I'd have said f*#& it.  At 17, or even 27, it'd be a different story.  I slammed real hard on concrete enough times skateboarding in college and highschool, I can't handle that any more either.  Went out skating a few years ago, tried to get back into it but I found out that I go down harder, and it hurts for longer.

D-nymph, I'm 37 too. and no, I'm not the oldest on the team  most of the girls are in their 20's a few are right around 40-42, so there is quite a range of ages.
I am in better shape than some of those 20 somethings. and I've been saying for a few years now that I wanted to start working out, this is better than any exercise class that i've tried.

Fisherchic -

When is your next season?

I am friends with one of the refs, and my wife's cousin is always raving about how fun the matches are.  I've been meaning to go check it out, but haven't made it.  I'll have to go check it out and root for whatever team you're on.
