Fished the Salmon River Thurs., Fri., and this morning. Was told Thurs. when we got there that the the river was "on fire", well, not quite. The fishing was just OK Thurs. morning hooked up a few kings some landed most not... and one steelhead landed in our group. Friday was a little better had good luck in the morning with one nice brown landed, and a few kings in our group. This morning was the best out of all the days, seems like there was a small push, lots of hook ups including a really nice brown that schooled me and a nice steelhead that schooled my buddy. It was a fun trip with good friends.

Those kings are tough on the tackle when you are targeting steelhead and browns, but I did manage to land this one with the help of a good net man......

I hear ya tippy. The "On Fire" is getting old fast. Been on the river on average days with small groups moving thru, good fun days, and got back and was told it was "On Fire".

Just honest real reports would be good enough, who needs to fish to
500-1000 fish moving thru anyway.

Tight Lines,

Usually the on fire reports come from the places that make money when you come to Pulaski like DSR, guides and bait shops. Them saying the fishing isn't good would be like a restaurant advertising "our food isn't that great this week."

I had been fishing the SR specifically DSR from last sat 9-26 until this fri 10-2. I have not seen any reports from there so I can't comment. What I can give you was my view of what happened there. Last sat was very slow with 1>2 fish moving and I had my doubts about the week ahead. Hit the water at first light sunday and what a total 360. it was the run of runs with THOUSANDS of salmon (coho's & kings) all day long non-stop from dawn till dark. What ever report they gave then was truly accurate. The word got out and by mid day they were sold out, monday as well.
The guy cleaning fish there must have been sick of seeing ppl by noon but I'm sure the money did him well. So again hit the water at dawn on Monday and the fish were still coming in strong all day long.
As the week wore on every day had less & less salmon coming in but more & more trout. Plenty of them. By friday very, very few new salmon coming in and those fish that were being caught were just stragglers that had been around hiding.

So my thought of things to come ?
Well we had a very good run labor day weekend then a big run of coho's weds 9/16 and last sunday & monday the mother load of fish (the lake must have dropped a foot).
Sure some salmon are still going to come from the lake but no doubt nothing major, it's winding down and the trout are picking up.
Any reports given from here on I'd take with a grain of salt and just go with expectations of finding some fresh trout.
If salmon is still on your mind then I'd strongly suggest fishing mid to upper river.

good luck .
Peace & Tuna

Yea, it worked pretty good, and I didn't worry about the camera in my vest when it rained on us all day on Fri.

Tippy,

Great trip with you and the rest of the doughnuts.  Thanks for a great couple of days.  You need to send me the pics from the town pool.

What's the scoop other than the DSR? What's it like upstream? Anyone lucky in the tressel or lower sportsman's? How about below the 2A bridge?
Coming up on the 18th-20th--
