Would it be a good idea to rattle lightly the first morning out or not?

I wont say its a bad idea... but i think i'll just sit quietly and see what happens myself,  if you try it i wouldnt recommend getting very aggressive, like you said lightly... they would only be gently sparring this early id assume.  If you try it and get any activity, even just a curious yearling buck please post up, it kind of goes along with using estrous scent early in the season... somewhat unconventional tactics - but nothing saying unconventional is not effective

Thats what i usally do just sit and wait to see what happens.I got another question i usally hunt the low lands of fayette and washington counties. We are going to hunt the laurel mountains of fayette county this archery season. The nights get a little bit cooler up there does this have any effect on if they will come in to rut sooner then low land deer?

Ive rattled many bucks in. Right now is the best time because they are starting to become territorial.

One other thing. If youre going to rattle... RATTLE. If you cant see a deer you cant accurately determine if it works. So, if you choose to do it, do it every 5 minutes. Its just like blind doe calling. Theres gotta be a deer in hearing distance for it to work.

Consider this! You rattle, set the horns/bag down and a big buck out of view was heading in your area. He never heard you. You wait 20 minutes, now wheres the buck, probably back out of hearing range again. You go home thinking... rattling didnt work. Really, you just didnt time it right. If you do it, you gotta commit to doing it. Otherwise you will never really know.
