Since I can't reply to the sticky, I was kind of curious as to if anybody would recommend any of these:

Restaurants/Bars:

Choo Choo’s Bar and Restaurant
2950 West Lake Rd Erie, PA 16505
(814) 838-9621

The Avonia Tavern
7321 West Lake Road Fairview, PA 16415
(814) 474-5347
http://www.avoniatavern.com/?pid=1

Joe Roots
2826 W. 8th St Erie, PA 16505
(814) 836-7668
www.joerootsgrill.com

Oscars Pub
2147 W. 12th St Erie, PA 16505
(814) 454-4325

I have been to the Avonia Tavern, but I didn't eat.  I haven't been to any of the others.

Joe Roots...

Although a bit pricey, very good food! And the service is great!

Oscars Pub..

Good place!

Yeah I love the avonia tavern.... can't beat the price for how much food you get. And everything I've had there is good.

Joe Root's is very good. Nice place to have a sit down dinner. At little "pricey" but your not gettin bar food either. I would highly recommend it.

What about Chico's? Wings are fantastic!

Must be a matter of taste. Went there with my daughter, son-in-law.
3 terrible meals, bill 100 bucks, service awful. Walleye seemed like
it came out of a box, breading so hard you could hardly bite through.
Son-in-laws cajun broiled walleye was like sushi - almost raw, and smelled fishy.

It took almost an hour to get our entrees. They'll never see me there again. Didn't even offer a free drink or dessert, when we informed them of the state of our dinners.

Many better choices for dinner. The rest. at the Belair, Smugglers Wharf
at the dock. Marketplace on State. Pufferbelly's on French St. right behind
Marketplace.

Taki's on 12th and Peninsula, good for breakfast.

Skip, or the Freeport Restaraunt on Rt. 5 at 16 mile creek. At least
the last time I was the. The sandwich had so many pieces, it was like
a dinner.

Smugglers at the dock used to be good, but haven't been there in quite a while.

no, its called the pittsburgh inn.  west lake road by the fire house.  under new mgt, still great food.

if your going downtown, i would eat at Calamaris. awesome menu.
i would stay away from the new indian place on west 12th street. i didnt think it was very good at all.

If you're traveling from the 'Burgh and want a great watering hole/lunch to hit on the way home just out of Erie, try Calfin's just off of Rt. 6 near the Edinboro exit.  Great food, service and beer selection!

This is one of the best I have found:
Iron Bridge Inn RT 19 1438 Perry Hwy Mercer, PA 1613
http://www.springfields.com/ibi_files/ironbridge.html

Jalapeño Stuffed Shrimp and Prime Springfield Angus Beef were great
Next time I might get the beer battered  Haddock
Its hard to find a good haddock fish fry in DA Bergh, back in Bradford almost every bar and  restaurant  serves it on Friday night.
Cod and flounder are OK but I grew up eating haddock

In Erie The Golden Corral on Peach Street is great for takeout to eat on the boat or lakeside later.
You get a foam container (take two- 1 hot and 1 for cold)and pick whatever you like from their buffet and they charge by the pound.
This is not gourmet but most things are pretty good.

Nowhere near Erie, but definitely a great place to eat marty!  I live about 20 minutes from the Iron Bridge.  The Springfield group...they have 4 great restauraunts...Iron Bridge, Log Cabin, Rachel's and the Springfield Grille.  All three on Rt. 19  Excellent dining for sure!

Thanks for your replies guys!

I am pretty sure I ate at the Freeport restaurant then as it was right there on Rt.5 close to 20 mile.  I had some kind of special hotdog that was tasty!

Does anybody like that restaurant there by the Riviera Motel?  It was a little pricey, but they had great Perch!

will have to give calfin's a try. Joe roots was awful for me and the family. only been 1 time. tables were dirty and sticky. waiter sucked. crappy food for the price. I expected way more for the price. that was my only experience with the place. Im not that picky or demanding either. if I ask for medium and my steak comes out well or medium rare ill eat it as long as it tastes good.

My favorite Erie restaurant/bar is now gone - Elk Creek Inn.

What happened there anyway, why did it close?  Does anyone know?  They always had a decent crowd when I was there.

Yep, that's what it is!  Since nobody mentioned it yet, then these places you are mentioning must be even better.  I thought that place was great!
