The tournament this Sunday the 17th?

A little advice......

If weather permits and main lake is open, go there........You'll never have enough weight in the bay. LE smallmouth are heavier on average than bay lm.

Deep weeds, thick weeds, close to deeper water or on breaklines is where to be should you be stuck in the bay.

The trench (about 6'deep) next to Perry Monument, outside Marina Bay(stay deep), The trench on the lower right side of the bay (Presque Isle side), where they water ski a lot, the condo's (humps), outside of the bay (but calm water) try the water just off Hammer Mill.  Stay in 9' plus--also the rock jetty just outside the launch at Hammermill.  If you can get to the cribs (concrete bunkers) about 5-6 miles down on the lake shore, stay in deep water.  A lot of folks try the north wall going out of the channel (that would be the left side going out), stay on the drop-off.  Hit some or all of these and you will boat some keeper bass.  You will also have some fun with sheephead, (fresh water drum) Good luck.  I will be up the following weekend just screwing around with both bass and walleye.

Actually you're both right, there is a tourny both days. KBBC is having one (I believe only on the bay,not the lake) on Saturday, out of Marina bay.     Presque isle bassmasters is on Sunday, out of Lampe Marina and the lake is open.

I never fish the bay this time of year,  in spring there is already tons of weeds, not sure what it'd be like this time of year. But I'd imagine Misery bay is still a hotspot of largemouth.

All I can tell you is be prepared to fish deep weeds, the water is clear enough that you'll find weeds growing to the surface in 12 feet of water.

I'm not fishing either of them, those guys are too good for me.

I'll agree with ready2fish also, if the tourny is open to the lake, then plan on fishing the lake. If not you're just donating your money.

Take some green pumpkinseed senko worms and rig them w/o weight on a 4/0 hook and fish them eratic off just about any good looking area and you will get fish in the bay. If the lake is open then target the SMB everybody is right a 20" LMB will be more than a lb smaller than the same length SMB. I would try blde baits and tube jigs from 25 to 45 fow.

Good luck Anadromous!  Hope you do well.  I know that you have the ability to do well.  You got me to catch bass in the river!

Like mentioned, in the bay fish weeds. The right weeds are key, you can cover acres and only find bass holding in a small section/area.

My favorite technique is to flip/pitch craw style baits on 65 lb test braid, 3/4 oz weight, to the thickest weeds I can find. Punch it through and put the hammer to them when you feel a bite.

Cover water fast. When you get a bite either throw a marker buoy or mark a waypoint on GPS, slow down and fish that area thoroughly.
