Gentlemen,
    This is a long-term post; to allow those of you who are interested, to plan for this years "One Fly" contest. And also to allow those who want to donate prizes to start preparing.
    The "One Fly" (4th annual edition) will be held on Columbus Day weekend; Specifically Saturday October 11th, starting at 9:00 am. There will be the usual prizes: A fully restored bamboo flyrod for 1st and an antique fiberglass rod for 2d, flies, cases and other paraphernalia. Free food and good company will be provided.
    I already have two other people who have volunteered to build modern rods for the event.
    And, as last year, we will have both a youth and a female prize.
    Once again there will be NO entrance fee!
   What I am looking for is a fly tyer who would be willing to donate 40 (+) identical flies to give one to each contestant as a momemto (something loud and garish I hope).

    Mark you calenders, or your collanders if you are so inclined.

I am open to most sugestions to improve the event but as of last year everyone seemed to have a good time.

indy, not the brightest question, but is it possible to drift these flies with a noodle rod. would really like to take part but the fly rods that i own are small in size? do you know of a link that talks about fly presentation with a noodle rod? if not, i would be more than happy to just come up and help out (as long as gas doesn't hit ten bux a gallon).

I have several fly rods and would be more than happy to loan you one and fish with you as you learn to use it. Using a fly rod may seem to be difficult, but in reality it is not. If you want to give it a try, let me know.

To answer your question, it is possible to drift flies with a noodle rod. Depending on the water you are fishing, you need to only do a little to adjustment what you do when you are fishing bait. The one place where I think fly rods really shine is when fishing the riffles. I find it a bit tough to get the drift in the faster water with the noodle rod, but that may be more my lack of experience.

To all those who want to have a great time, meet some wonderful people and eat good food while overlooking Elk creek, the One Fly is what you are looking for. I know I will be there, Lord willing and the creek don't rise....

thanks for your offer, bug. it's very kind. i am afraid that i may damage the rod, the water and anyone within casting distance. i will attempt to learn about fly presentations with a noodle rod.

Let's pray the creek DOES rise; At least a little higher than last year! LOL!

Rapala11. I have extra fly rods also and if you do come up we will try to pair you up with an experienced fly fisherman. May not be a good fly fisherman but at least experienced! Also, you don't have to be able to cast 50 feet usually just 25 feet works. Also, if you can drift fish a single egg under a noodle with a float you can do the same with a fly rod, or fish a fly the same way.

No problem. I think with a little instruction, you would be no threat to anyone or the rod.

You got that right. That rod roll casts like a dream. I don't want to speed the summer up, but I am already starting to get the itch for the steelies....

not to be a smart alick but I think you would have alot better turn out and more succesfull one fly if it was closer to end of Oct. Just my thoughts.

Originally thought so too, BUT we needed to make it on a holiday weekend so everyone could have the time to attend and still fish for a couple of days extra. I just KNOW you'll be there this year. Won't you? Plus the early time in the season adds to the difficulty. And most people won't mind giving up a two fish day as opposed to a 10 fish day from later in the season. We had the first two on veterans day and had poor turnout. Last year was the best so far and I'm hoping for better this year.
