I understand this may get moved, but since many of us are gathering at Oil Creek this weekend, I wanted to get this plea out quickly.

http://www.goerie.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080430/NEWS02/971688817

http://www.erietube.com/kickapps/_LaSalle-Ave-fire/video/197953/3766.html

Friends of our's lost their home this morning.  Everything they owned is gone.  3 great boys have lost everything.  Their mother was one of my wife's bride's maids, as well as a co-worker.  She has done many good things for not only us, but for many people's children over the years.  She ran the boy's baseball league last year, as well as annually organizing a huge fundraiser for their Scout troop, which a couple members here attended just a few weeks ago.  They just don't deserve this.

She called us this morning as the flames were tearing the house apart, shaking us to the core.  I've felt helpless until I thought of this group of people here.  Yes, the boys fished with their grandfather, who happens to be battling a horrible cancer, but it's more about life.  They will need clothing and bookbags and things like that.  If anyone attending the Oil Creek Outing has extra clothing to donate, I will be sure to get it to the family.  I'll get sizes as soon as I can, but I can let you know the oldest is a strapping 16 yr. old, so I'm assuming he's out of boys sizes.  Then there is his 14 yr. old brother who isn't quite as large as his big brother was at the same age, and their 9 or 10 yr. old little brother.

These are great boys who hunt and fish, play baseball and football, and get chased by girls (they're good looking, nice boys, so they're cursed that way), so anything that anybody feels they want to do would be welcome.  I just want to do what I can to help the family, especially the boys, and this is the best I can come up with right now.  I'll be at Oil Creek all day if anybody wants to drop something off with me.  For those who aren't attending, you can pm me about anything you're willing to donate.  We'll make arrangements.  I'll post links to any funds created for the family.

Thanks in advance to all who can help out.

I just got this from my wife:

If you have clothes to part with for Renee's family, below is a listing of their sizes...

Woman Shoe: 8 1/2
Boys shoe: size 5
Boys pants: size 10-12
Men shoe: 10, 13, 9
Men Shirts: Large and Ex-Large
Men's Pants: 33/32 , 31' waist , 36' or 38' waist

They have been put up in a hotel, and my wife's office and some close friends have already provided them with toiletries for their immediate needs.
Thanks.

I'm going to be moving soon and we're gutting our closets.   I'll have men's shirts, pants, and shoes for you.  A good many too.  Lots of large/extra shirts, 10-11 shoes,  33-32 pants.

Not sure when I'll be making it back out that way.  Farthest I'll go towards Erie in the next few months will be Lake Arthur.  We could try to meet there?   Should be a Sunday evening in the next month or so.

Thanks guys.  I just got news that the fire started in the youngest's closet and his brother burned his hands quite badly trying to put it out.  I'm so sad to hear this.  Their pets are no where to be found, so it's not looking good for them either, though animals are known to flee and be freaked out for long periods of time.  Hopefully they show up unharmed, but it's not expected at this point.

I've already received an offer of a Walmart gift card, which I will gladly accept and pass along to the family.  This might be something to offer up when considering donating something.  Things like shoes and underware aren't easily passed along as used items, so being able to go out and buy them themselves would be a good thing.  Once again, thanks.

I prob have some stuff to give. Its not brand new but will bring some mens clothes. Im pretty small framed so the adult/16yr old can prob share some of the stuff. I wear those sizes myself and I was just talking about getting rid of stuff I dont wear. Not that its not NICE I just dont wear it.

Kelsea wants to know what size clothes the woman wears?

Ain't happening!    My wife doesn't even know her friend's size.  I've seen Kelsea, and well, just let her know thanks for the thought.  Not that she's ungrateful, just, uhm... a woman.

I'm honestly a bit overwhelmed by the response.  Thanks, again, to all.

WOW!!!  You guys ROCK!!!!

I am in no way posting this to entice people to match this, but one of you, and you know who you are, sent me a check for $200.  WOW!!!!  Many, many thanks!!!  May your pies always be "saucy"!

Nearly a dozen checks/gift cards have been pledged, as well as many more offers of clothing and sporting goods.

I'm truly stunned, and I know the family will be.  I won't see them until Monday, but I guarantee everyone of you have done great service to the word "sportsman".  Thank you.  Thank you very much.

Thanks, FF.

I was thrilled this morning when I got to hand over $260 in cash, a Walmart card of unknown quantity, and a pile of fishing gear to the mother.  Thank you all so much.  The cash is greatly needed, but the biggest reaction was to the gear.  Thanks J + K!!!  The boys (and their dad) truly had lost everything, so this really helps get them back in the game.  They were already sending the youngest off this weekend to his Grandfather's camp, and now he'll have a fishing rod and tackle box to use.  Thanks so much!!!

Things are looking up for them.  The money donated couldn't have come at a better time, as the boys got to replace all their baseball gear just in time, whereas they would've been stuck waiting around for the insurance company before they could've afforded the gear.  Great job, everyone!!!  They are getting back on their feet and feeling great about the people around them, and obviously stunned by the kindness of total strangers.  You guys ROCK!!!

I'll hold off and give one final update once I know I've received everything.  I don't want to seem like I'm constantly hitting you all up for donations.  The big crisis is over for them, thanks to folks like yourselves and others close to them, as well as good insurance coverage.  Now they can begin to search for that frustrating aspect of life we call "normalcy".   Check your insurance coverage and make sure you are fully insured, as you never know when something like this can happen.  Thanks again.

Thanks to those who contacted me, I was able to hand $670 in cash and gift cards to this family in need.  On top of the financial generosity, clothing, camping and fishing gear, and prayers and compassion were passed along to them.  I can't thank you enough, and I assure you the family feels the same way.  The boys needed a big boost, and this helped give them one.  They still have many things to deal with, but baseball season wasn't ruined, thanks to you folks.  That's just one of the areas covered by your generosity.  Thank you so much.
