I usually make a habit of trying to fish a certain area of the river that I've never tried before.  Given the fact I only get 2 days at a clip, I'll always devote one to uncharted territories.   this time I'd like to explore the area between 2A down to the Paper Mill, with the primary target being the Clarks Falls stretch.   So, (A) is this easily accessable?  And  (B) what would be the preferred side to fish, North or South?   (C) is it conducive to a fly rod?

feel free to throw in a secret parking spot or two!   hahahaha!    Thanks for the help in advance

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, cuz I havent been there in a few years, but I remember it like this:
- Both sides posted above Clark Falls
- Left side of Clark Falls posted and patrolled by goons
- steep bank/cliff on left above and on right below the rail bridge.
What you are left with is fishing right side above the bridge, and left side below the bridge. (Left/right are as facing downstream).

I always parked at the railroad crossing and walked down to the trestle, eyed the water for any holders then crossed the bridge and fish the sharp bend down around the corner. Great pocket water and a real deep hole below that. If you stay on the other side go upstream and fish the deep trench above the bridge and/or the pockets above that, all good water that hold steel and salmon(earlier in the season). Zak, the 12 to 8 would work on the steelhead, straight 12 or a little bigger on the salmon. The ugly stik is a good starter rod, thou not as sensitive to a brown or steelhead strike. All else fails, ask your guide.

According to the DEC Public Fishing Rights page, the north side of the river is open for fishing from 2A downstream to the RR trestle.  Actually the north side of the river is part of the DEC Public Fishing Rights from Altmar all the way down to RR/Papermill area (except for a small portion about 1/8 of a mile long above the Compactor.

Like Hav2 said, the north side is a DEC easment but very difficult to access and walk, thickets, trees, bad casting areas. The south side is all private residences with no access, you can go down a ltlle ways from the bridge, but then it becomes homeowner properties all the way about to the trestle.
