Went up to Erie for a quick/last minute trip and my brother (wvsteelrdie) caught a pink salmon. This was the first one I have ever seen in the tribs. He missed having a new state record by 6 oz.

WOW, really nice fish. This is the first salmon I have seen at Erie. It looks like the hunch back of notre dame fish... Its cool looking.... To be truthful i would be scare if i caught that....LOL

I talked with a old buck down by Hallie Reed park(freeport beach), he said he had one on at the falls and his line snapped before he could get it in the net or bank. I'm sure we will see more reports about these.

wow i had no idea that a pink salmon looked like that! why's it called pink? the flesh pink i suppose?

if im not mistaken pink salmon get their name from their pink colors they pic up as they mature into their run?? but all im finding is how they are silver then become a darker grey as they go from lake/ocean to rivers to spawn.

wow what a special catch, i saw a pinky in 20 mile last year but couldn't get him to hit anything. what a rarity.

i watched some guy miss 1 on walnut yesterday..and why is there so many in the tribs this year... i seen one caught at trout run 5 or 6 yrs ago but thats all ive seen b4 this year

Gentlemen,
This is an even numbered year, and a year that ends in 8. For some reason I have seen more pinks in the creeks in even numbered years and even more in 8 years, 88, 98, 2008. Don't know why. May be some natural repro going on in the creeks somewhere or they are coming in from Mich or NY. That's a nice fish. We may see a new state record this year IF folks know what to look for. Salute to the lucky fisherman.

Awesome. That would without a doubt make my season! Not to throw off the whole even year thing, but I saw one last year in the hole a little above the first set of tubes on walnut walking up from the access area. It was either that or a disformed steelhead, which I actually though it was at the time.
