I will tell you what I use....I use a 6' Ugly Stick with an Okuma Inspira Reel....8lb backing of Pline and 150' of 8lb Fireline....The Fireline is a real boost, you can feel the lightest bite with it....I don't spend much on my perch poles because they get all minnow scaled up and tossed around....

I go where ever and pick up the dirt cheapest POS that I can find.  Not like you need a $200 combo to reel up perch.  Not to mention if it gets lost of broke, oh darn, now I've got to spend another 40 bucks.

Light downrigger rod, small level wind and 15 lb braid. Not the cheapest and perch overkill, but does double duty for 'eye trolling. No matter what rod or reel, braid always outfishes mono on our boat. You can feel the minnow swim....
