Status: offline 		Fished all day the first day...Fished bout 3 hours today...Didint notice a change in the size in fish at all...Was reading other reports and people saying the they also didnt see a change. I read a responce with some one saying 80 % of the trout were bigger...that may be true...

I am just wondering whats with this "adult trout program" and why is that on its second year. Many of us anglers havent seen a change at all. Is it only in select streams or in all of them

The average size fish i was catching was 11"....Biggest was a golden rainbow that was around 18-19 inches.

What does everybody think?

Status: offline 		I helped stock several streams in SWPA and the avarage size fish was very nice.  TONS of big fish went in aswell.  I'd say an avarage size of 11" is pretty damn good?

Status: offline 		I was just going to start a thread about this.  The rainbows I was catching were barely legal fish--like 9".   I figured it was the sportsmens club's fish since they stock this crik.  But I went to another stream and the same thing happened.  I catch small rainbows.  The brook and browns I caught were a little bigger but not much.

They must be a politician living out your way to have gotten bigger fish stocked.  lol 

The fish commission stocks less fish but bigger fish.  I did not see it and I fished two streams that are popular and heavily fished and usually get nice trout.   No, I do not see it.

Status: offline 		Its funny how opinions change.  I just came into work talking about how I thought the fish were bigger this year then last year and how maybe the program was actually coming to fruitition.  I've been fishing WV(thats where I currently reside) and the fish here are pretty small.(6-10 inches)  I only fished the first morning in PA(my home state) but the fish there were averaging 11-12 inches, had a ton of fight, and were very acrobatic.  Last year I was angry about the new program, but now it might be working.  I will have to see the 1st in-season stocking to make my final judgement however.  I guess we will see.  It might depend on what part of the state you fished/what hatchery the fish came from, I'm not sure.

Status: offline 		I fished Tionesta at Mayburg Bridge and all the fish I caught were def bigger than years prior anywhere else.  Caught a nice 19 inch 3 pound Bow and many other fish I saw caught and caught myself were about 12-16 inches.  Caught 3 that were sub 10.  No Complaints Here.

Status: offline 		I saw some smaal fish on stringers.....there were some nicer ones mixed in but I would say they were on average - smaller than last year....Talked to a few guys that said the same thing....

Status: offline 		To me it seems to depend on what time you get there.  At least it is usually true here in WV where I fish.  If you are in a freshly stocked hole then the average size is pretty good.  But If youre in a pretty well cleaned out hole the average size goes way down.  I guess its because of the fact that stocked fish, unlike wild fish, don't get smarter the bigger they get.  So only thing that separates big from small is that the small ones are more likely to get thrown back.  Therefor making it seem like they stocked alot of small fish if your not first one to fish after they stock.  At least thats how it plays out in my mind.

The best way to fight it is to get off the beaten path.  Find one of those secret holes that the few big fish that manage to avoid hooks will gravitate to.  These are usually small and hidden spots such as a hidden undercut on the edge of a barren run.  Since the spot is so small the big fish will run off smaller fish making the average size go way up.  Always release the fish there and never tell anyone about it. NO MATTER WHAT!  I have even gone as far as covering my tracks and using different paths everytime to a few of my most secret spots!

Status: offline 		The biggest fish i saw over the weekend was my 19inch golden rainbow...and i saw on trout around 15 inch...besides that all small...being the majority...

Big browns for those who actually looked for them.  Plenty of 9" - 11" with lots of 13" - 15" and even a couple in the 16" - 18" class.  Not one of the fish I caught needed to be put up against a tape to see if it were legal or not.

I guess yinz just aint special enough for them.

Either that, or too many complainers here are just like the guys wandering around the streams beoching as they pass a dozen or so big fish "hidden" right in front of them. 

Sure, there could be more of them in the easy access areas for the children, but then again, those areas usually get packed with "grown" children complaining about numbers anyway.

The Golden Rainbow Trout I viewed down here would put the average Steelhead in Erie to shame!  Real nice breeders they put in!  Watching the excitement on the faces of the kids was incredible!  That is what it is all about eh?

Status: offline 		Fished elk creek sunday and this evening... caught  (3) 12-15inch browns both days.. Caught acouple(2) 9-10inchers... Threw em all back. Not a complaint with the size at all.... Whats everyone expecting?? Amazing how many times the  word "greedy"  could be used on this subject. Do alittle bit of walking( farther than the 50 feet you are from your vehicle... fish alittle bit harder and you'll catch them.

Status: offline 		Well, I guess the Rolling Rock Club is near my house, LOL.

No but seriously, all fish I've seen were very nice size.  I seen more big fish put in than ever before.  Seems like there was a fish (or a couple) over 18inchs pulled from every popular hole on the stream I fished opening morning(a very popular local stream I might add).  Seems like most people released them aswell so most are still in there, including the palominos!

I guess some areas just got stocked with smaller fish than others.  Maybe fish from a dif hatchery?  Or maybe some of you just got screwed, beats me?

Status: offline 		The ones I caught were decent sized.  The only place I got any under about 9 inches was on the native creek, which wasn't stocked.  Also a young kid caught a bruiser brownie, had to be 5-6 pounds.  It looked like something outta the Erie tribs, size wise.

Status: offline 		have recently fished bald eagle-- couple of weeks in a row,  recently put breeders in(from what i heard) caught an average of 8 trout(bows and browns) in the morning only, when sun hit water it was all over. Also fished after 12 at night, very fun time!!!! bigger browns,,, but all in all this year, very small around where i fish i have to say, and not very many either.      Also i would like to add---THANKS to everyone that recently took MCCOY damn out of spring creek, YOU TOTALLY RUINED THE FISHING IN THAT AREA.  i fished there for 20 years-do not keep trout(just fun to catch),  that was a place you could hook a young kid on trout fishing a stream,,,, THANKS AGAIN TO EVERYONE WHO HAD A SAY!!!
