I thought everything she said really sounded scripted and Charlie ... can't think of his last name really got on her nerves . What'd you guys think? Also I thought she got it when bringing up her pro life abortion plans, and what McCain had said he'd follow through on..

Was that the interview where Charlie Gibson asked her about the Bush doctrine, and it was obvious she didn't know what that was?

Somebody want to explain to me what the Bush doctrine is?  There are a lot of policy platforms established by a 2 term president.

I don't know of many people that could answer that question, I think I would have answered it the same way.  Bush doctrine in respect to what?

I didn't think it sounded scripted at all.  I think she is so together that is what all of her answers sound like.  I have to admit, she impresses the hell out of me.

ATTN: CHARLIE GIBSON

"I have often expressed my sentiments, that every man, conducting himself as a good citizen, and being accountable to God alone for his religious opinions, ought to be protected in worshipping the Deity according to the dictates of his own conscience." -- George Washington, letter to the General Committee of the United Baptist Churches in Virginia
"It is impossible to govern the world without God and the Bible."
"Do not let any one claim to be a true American if they ever attempt to remove religion from politics."
 George Washington
* * *
"We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We’ve staked the future of all our political institutions upon our capacity…to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God."
Fourth President of the United States & founding Father - James Madison
* * *
"In regard to this great book, I have but to say, it is the best gift God has given to man. All the good Savior gave to the world was communicated through this book. But for it we could not know right from wrong. All things most desirable for man's welfare, here and hereafter, are to found portrayed in it."
"When any church will inscribe over its altar, as its sole qualification for membership, the Savior's condensed statement of the substance of both law and Gospel, 'Thou shalt love the lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul and thy neighbor as thyself' that church will I join with all my heart and all my soul."
"That I am not a member of any Christian church is true; but I have never denied the truth of the Scriptures; and I have never spoken with intentional disrespect of religion in general, or of any denomination of Christians in particular....I do not think I could myself be brought to support a man for office whom I knew to be an open enemy of, or scoffer at, religion." [July 31, 1846]
"And in the end it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years." -
"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."
  Abraham Lincoln
*  *  *
"Hold fast to the Bible as the sheet-anchor of your liberties; write its precepts in your hearts and practice them in your lives. To the influence of this book we are indebted for all the progress made in true civilization, and to this we must look as our guide in the future. Righteousness exalteth a nation; but sin is a reproach to any people."
Ulysses S. Grant
*  *  *
"We must recognize the fundamental rights of man. There can be no true national life in our democracy unless we give unqualified recognition to freedom of religious worship and freedom of education."
-- letter to the Calvert Associates, 1937 - Franklin Delano Roosevelt
*  *  *
The whole inspiration of our civilization springs from the teachings of Christ and the lessons of the prophets. To read the Bible for these fundamentals is a necessity of American life.
Herbert Hoover
*  *  *
"The world is very different now. For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life. And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe—the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God...... Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty...... With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God's work must truly be our own."
Inaugural Address - Friday, January 20, 1961- John F. Kennedy
*  *  *
"We establish no religion in this country, nor will we ever. We command no worship. We mandate no belief. But we poison our society when we remove its theological underpinnings. We court corruption when we leave it bereft of belief.
All are free to believe or not believe; all are free to practice a faith or not. But those who believe must be free to speak of and act on their belief, to apply moral teaching to public questions.
I submit to you that the tolerant society is open to and encouraging of all religions. And this does not weaken us; it strengthens us, it makes us strong. You know, if we look back through history to all those great civilizations, those great nations that rose up to even world dominance and then deteriorated, declined, and fell, we find they all had one thing in common. One of the significant forerunners of their fall was their turning away from their God or gods.
Without God, there is no virtue, because there's no prompting of the conscience. Without God, we're mired in the material, that flat world that tells us only what the senses perceive. Without God, there is a coarsening of the society. And without God, democracy will not and cannot long endure. If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under. If I could just make a personal statement of my own -- in these 3 1/2 years I have understood and known better than ever before the words of Lincoln, when he said that he would be the greatest fool on this footstool called Earth if he ever thought that for one moment he could perform the duties of that office without help from One who is stronger than all.
There are no such things as limits to growth, because there are no limits on the human capacity for intelligence, imagination and wonder."
University of South Carolina, Columbia, Sept 20, 1983) - Ronald Reagan

Storming Warning 2, to put it simply, the Bush Doctrine is "You might want to hurt me, but i"m goin to bomb the sh''t out of you before I find out if it's true." Makes sense in a kind of ole' time western kind of way, but not in this age, when diplomacy might help us avoid sending our sons and daughters into unnecessary battle.

Certainly pre-emption is a portion of his doctrine.

What about spreading the causes of democracy,freedom, and liberty throughout the world? (Russia/Georgia, Iraq, Afghanistan, and South America)

What about promoting defense of our allies in Nato and the rest of the world? (ie, the introduction of INCOMING missle defense systems in Poland)

Saudi Arabia, China? Where and when will we be spreading democracy next?
That is crap. Nothing about spreading democracy ever came up until oops there are no weapons on mass destruction.
What ever happened to all the evidence that was going to show that the reason France, Germany and Russia were against us going in and getting those weapons was because they were helping with them. Hard to find since there were no weapons.

Defending yourself is one thing, being the aggressor is something else.  Going after Bin Laden in Afghanistan was the right thing to do.  Going into Iraq was not.  If we want to spread democracy, it is far better to lead by example and not at the end of a gun barrel.  The Bible says you will reap what you sow.  Harvest time will be coming.  My fear is that when it does, it will not be what many expected.

on another station they had a life story. "palin revealed" it was interesting from how she grew up till now. a lot of the accusations are misleading and are false. they interviewed the guy she supposedly fired because palin told him to get rid of the cop and he didn't. he said he was never told to fire the ex-trooper.
the x trooper tazered his 10 year old step son? eye witnesses said they seen him drinking on duty(still under investigation)
they interveiwed the cop and asked him face to face if he ever threatened palin's dad. HE DID NOT SAY NO!!! he didn't say yes either but steered his answer in a different direction. (i wonder why?)
the librarian never admitted palin asked to remove any books from the libr. palin just asked if it was possible. the media blew this story up as that was insinuating she wanted to remove books.
the bridge to know where was interesting also.
with an 80% approval rate as a govn'r she evedently is doing more things what the people in the state want than not.
heck, congress has the worst approvel rating than the pres!

after that program they had the same thing on biden revealed. that was better yet. for the time he's been in the senate he has some issues too.  credit card companies in his own state. he also had a brain aneurysm.
is pelosi 2 heart beats away from beig pres.??????? can she handle the job????

After 9-11, Bush put the world on notice - "you are either with us or against us" i.e. you're either a friend or an enemy, and we (the US) will do anything to bring about your destruction. This included the policy of pre-emption, i.e. hitting them before they hit us!

Iraq is a good example - it put our "friends" in the mid-east on notice that we were serious and going to weed out the terrorists and jihadists who most definately are out to get us. Many of these countries had these enclaves of terrorists (some in Africa) that apparently were allowed to "exist" in return for "you don't cause any problems" in your host country.

The initial success in Afganistan was impressive and everyone expected the same results in Iraq. Unfortunately, they did not succeed in finding and eliminating Bin Laden, Mullah Ormar, and a few others of their ilk. (Cut off the head of the snake - the rest will die!)

When they went into Iraq - they said it was going to be a long, drawn out, process - which it has. We flushed many of these terrorists and jihadists out of their host countries - i.e. you'd better leave, or we will have to put you out - and they did migrating to Iraq, many through Iran and Syria. With the "SURGE" which has had more success than the media and liberals care to acknowledge, they have been more successful in weeding out some of these enclaves in Iraq, along with the Iraq forces and the increased cooperation of the Sunnis, Shiittes, etc. who I hope have finally realized, this is the best way to get the Amercans to leave and get their country back so they can sort out their own problems.

There has been a resurrgence of the Taliban in Afganistan, with a more aggressive response by the US and coalition forces. Americans are impatient (i.e. don't have the patience of we fishermen), but we had better see this to a successful conclusion before we have another 9-11!!
Quitting in the middle is not the way. I'm reminded of the man who attempted to swim the Atlantic ocean from New York to England - something that had never been done - he got three-fourths (75%) the way across - decided he couldn't make it - turned around and swam back!

I beg to differ on the effectiveness of the surge.  The main reason things have calmed down is many of the Sunni local leaders decided to turn on the Al Qaeda and sided with the Americans.  The Sons of Iraq which is made up of Sunnis stepped up and ran these guys out.  They had had enough.  Now they are being asked to step down by the US backed govt. of Iraq.  In fact, the US military is protecting these brave Iraqis from being arrested by the Iraqi govt.  Without the cooperation of the Sunnis and the Sons of Iraq, no matter how many troops we put on the ground, nothing would have changed.  What we have now is the US military sitting in the middle of the Sunnis and Shia and trying to hold the whole thing together.  Al Qaeda aside, Iraq is still and will be for a long time an extremely volatile part of the world and our invasion of it has not really changed that one bit.

As a friend of mine who is from Iraq said before we set foot over there, "You are sticking your hand into a hornet's nest.  The US government has no idea what they are getting into."

Oh yea, just one other little bit of history we seem to have forgotten.  It was the American government under the leadership of Presidents Reagen and Bush the first, who helped prop up Saddam, arm him and encourage him to go after our hated enemy, Iran.

The bottom line, when you go stirring up hornet nests, you are going to get stung.  We stirred up one big one for less than the right reasons and now 5 year later are up to our eyeballs in it.  The our economy is in the tank, our military is pushed to the limit, the country is polarized over this issue and where are we?  Bin Laden is still out there, over 10,000 Iraqis are dead, over 4000 US soldiers are dead, thousands more are wounded and many will need care for the rest of their lives.  This war is taking a huge toll on all of us and as far as I can tell, we are really no better off today than we were 5 years ago.

As for another 9/11, we will see more of that.  All we have done is push it back into the streets of other countries and we have done little if anything to get at the cause.  You don't stop ideas and ideologies with bullets.  You fight them on the battle field of ideas.  We are fighting to change the world, to bring peace, but we must remember peace is not the absence of war.  Peace comes from within and when you allow for injustice, indifference to suffering, inequality, poverty and ignorance to exist, you will have Al Qaeda and the Taliban.  They thrive in a world where the US in their view is running around the world killing people and raiding villages.  That is the fuel they need to feed the next generation of terrorists.  The more violent we become, the more violent their responses will be. The best recruiting tool they have is another martyr that has died for the cause.

In an uneven battle, they will use any means available to fight back and terror is an excellent weapon.  It costs them little, but the effect is great.  All they have to do is keep up enough of a group that we think they are a threat and they have us chasing our tails.  They know we will run out of money and bombs chasing them and eventually they will bankrupt us.  It is a matter of time.  We are in a battle that requires more than bombs and bullets.  It requires intelligence and self control.  If we continue to wage war, we will get more of the same.  If we wage peace, we will see a change.  We are fighting an idea, not a person or even a group of people.  We need more on that front.

"What about spreading the causes of democracy,freedom, and liberty throughout the world?"

1.  Show me where this Democracy exists and I might want to buy some!
2.  Is it Democracy or Capitalism that is being "spread?"
3.  Show me a list of countries that actually want this "Democracy."

What gets me is the arrogance behind the thinking that middle eastern nations desire our form of democracy.   I'm not certain, but the muslim religion does not allow for the freedoms our democracy provides.  And since this region is oriented around religious beliefs and practices, why would we think that this would benefit them?  Why would they accept it, or want it?

You can't negotiate with some one who wants to annihilate you because your beliefs are not the same as theirs. They (the leaders) are smart, will "negotiate" with the best of them and when the opportunity avails - will slit your throat!

After the above post, I watched parts of a show re: the war, Bin Laden, etc. Bin Laden was credited as saying, "Americans embrace life, we embrace death!" Although he has successfully avoided death, this is the dogma he preaches to his followers who would slit your throat or kill you in any manner because "you are an infidel"!

"You can't negotiate with some one who wants to annihilate you because your beliefs are not the same as theirs.

There is a world of difference between trying to deal with a Bin Laden, which I would agree you must hunt down and remove from the society and dealing with a soverign country.  The extremest are not the only people we are dealing with.  Look at what happened in Iraq.  Many of the Iraqis realized the Al Qaeda were not what they wanted in their country and went after them.  Before we went into Iraq there was no credible evidence Al Qaeda was operating in a large scale there.

If we are so worried about extremest causing problems we don't have far to look.  We have our own homegrown ones right here.  Remember Tim McVeigh?  What about the klan, skinheads, neonazis, militas?  There some very dangerous people who are not Islamic terrorist right here in the US.  Maybe we should invade our country to root them out?

I agree completely with you that there are some very dangerous people out there and we need to find them. Removing them from society will reduce the immediate threat, but we must work to irradicate the ideas they are spreading.  To do this, education is key as is how we conduct ourselves in the world.  Violence should be kept to a minimum and we must work with the people in the areas where these terrorist are hiding out.  We need to get them to help us find and root them out.

I also say that we need to fight the ideas these people are spreading and simply removing a few leaders will not crush the ideas.  Most of the power the terrorist have comes in pointing out how evil we are.  We invade their Holy Land.  We kill innocent people.  Our economic policies oppress the economy of their countries and on and on.  The battle against terrorism has to be wage on all fronts.  It is extremely naive to think we will ever end terrorism by simply killing a few leaders. Our image around the world is as every bit important as how powerful our military is.

Please do not get me wrong.  We must defend ourselves, but defending ourselves is not just done with a gun.  It is the old carrot and the stick.  Use the carrot as much as possible and the stick only when absolutely necessary.

Remember too, this is the land where Jesus was born, raised, crucified, and died for our sins!

The muslims and jews can believe what they want but there is also a strong Christian presence and faith that they need to show equal respect and tolerance! (Part of what we're fighting for - in addition to oil!)

No doubt al queda & the jihadists use the Crusades (over 1000 years ago) to recruit and justify their dogma. Weaponary and delivery means have greatly improved (for better or worse) since then!

What you say about Christians in the Middle East is true.  Many have left due to the pressure put on them by extremists of both Judaism and Islam.  In fact, many Palestinians are Christian and they get dumped on by both Jews and Muslims.  The religious make up the communities in the Middle East is far more complex than most Americans believe.  Finding ways to allow all to live out their beliefs and at the same time not kill each other is something we want, but it is not necessarily what some in the region want.
