With the season starting I thought I would share these numbers with you.. I have a bussiness card with these numbers to call, kept in my wading jacket/vest. Found it at local baitshops. Might want to make a copy and put it in your vest..

Yeah, I've tried some of those numbers in the past.  Result: nobody ever shows up...too busy I guess.  I will, however, continue to do my part as best I can.  I just wish they would do their's.

I've only had to call a WCO one time. He showed up within 20 minutes and apprehended the poacher (person of foreign descent snagging fish).

I always keep the above numbers handy......

We called the troops in last season on Walnut. There were a group of vagrants snagging fish after fish up at the waterfall. A fellow in plainclothes came up and was fishing beside me. He casually asked if I was the one who called. I don't know why he picked me out. He observed them for a while, making about a half dozen calls on his cell. Soon, the WCO in uniform showed up, and the snagging stopped. Unfortunately, 3 of the perpetrators had lugged off 9 fish. They showed back up right before dark with lanterns, so we called again. I don't know if they responded to this call. I was up the next week, and the deputy that had been in plainclothes was checking licenses at Walnut Access parking lot. He checked my buddy's, but he told me "I don't need to see yours, I fished with you all day last week."

Then why didn't the plain clothes deptuy do anything to the guys that hauled of the nine fish. And second why did he have to call wasn't he able to take care of it on his own.

he said it was a "group", Pin.

One man against several isn't good odds if something went bad wrong.
Some snaggers can be down right ornery mean

it was smart to call for back up

I've been checked for my license by undercover officers many times. Don't see why they'd check licenses if they couldn't write the tickets.

Both agencies work plainclothes at times. Just like regular cops perform in plainclothes for certain situations. Ask to see an official ID and shield (politely) if someone stops you. There are "wannabees" outhere too. If they can't produce it, report the person-make a call to authorities.

Game wardens used to be the most dangerous job in law enforcement, don't kow if it still is. I don't blame anyone for trying to get backup/more resources to make an arrest. There's a lot of nutz out in the woods hunting/fishing and doing other "things".....

So if someone breaks into your house would you just wait around until the police randomly show up

There are only so many officers and so much water to patrol. They can't be everywhere at once. Perhaps if someone ripping fish puts a hook in somebody you'd look the other way as well?

There will always be guys poaching steelies and any other gamefish for that matter. For every 1 person that gets busted there probably 10+ that don't. We as sportsmen should be looking out for the future of our sport and report guys who break the law. It only takes a few minutes to do. Chances are if someone gets busted they will think twice about doing it again and if they don't they certainly might on a 2nd offense when the penalties are much much higher.

I just read the Game Code. A  game warden only has to be in uniform to stop a vehicle.
Any other time they just have to show their badge and ID.
