Arthur, or the Ohio by boat. You should do better by boat because when the river is high, or at a stable level, the fishing is at its easiest. When it's dropping the fish seem to spread out a bit more. This saturday the river will still be dropping and with a boat you will be able to cover a lot more water.

This is the question that I always ask myself...  I never seem to pick the correct place though.  Mine's also driven by the gadgets that I want to test out.  I think it really depends on what you want to catch.  The weather also determines a few of the spots.

Panfish and chance of a biggin, and possible lunch - Arthur

Decent sized variety and chance of biggin - Ohio or other rivers

Trout - just about any trout lake or stream should have a bunch of fish left and still being stocked.

Better chance at large fish, but likely the best chance for skunking too - Arthur at night

It seems to me that earlier in the spring, trout then the rivers are the places to go.  Then later, the lakes get a chance to warm up, and are the place.  Not that the ice off isn't a great time on the lakes for many people, I just haven'f figured that out yet.  This seems to be right in the middle, time wise.  Sorry for adding to your confusion...  But think you really can't go wrong with just about anywhere right now.  You'll likely run into some kind of fish just about any option.

When the river is high => fish are closer to the shoreline => better for shore fishing.

Clearly, you can fish shorelines from a boat as well - just pointing out that shore fishing is best when water level is high.

check pa fish commission site.  i think that hereford manor is being stocked saturday afternoon at 1:30.  mainly do this for the kids.  So if you're taking kids, this would be ideal.  Or go to arthur in the morning and hit this on the way back.

Marklu, read my post a little closer. What I was saying is when the river is HIGH, or LOW (stable), fishing is easiest. When it is dropping, like it is and will be on saturday, the fish tend to be more spread out. They don't tend to hug the shoreline as much.

Carphead, check out the weather report a little closer as it's calling for rain this afternoon, tonight, and Fri. so don't bet on it dropping Sat.

Mark, haven't checked the weather yet, but if thats the case, you are right it will be better to shore fish on sat.
Regardless, do you not agree with what I said, generally speaking about river fishing?

Not sure where you are located, but I avoid the river in most parts when the water is high.  Most of my wading spots on the rivers suck in high water.  Running the prop over a treebranch isn't a good thing either.  Many of my high water spots have very limited fishable space.  I don't enjoy "catching" the other stuff that seems to be prevelant durning high water situations too.  Fishing might be better, but personal heatlh outweighs a good day of fishing to me.  I'm sure the polution thing, and likely fishing as well, is better the further you are away from the urban areas though.
