Starting at the end of summer (September) the Oktoberfest/Marzen beers are available.  This is my all time favorite type of beer to drink.  Usually they're available until Thanksgiving.  There are quite a few breweries making it these days.  Some of the ones I've drank are:  Penn Pilsener *** stars, Sam Adams **1/2 stars, Victory ***, Dundee/Genessee *1/2, Leinenkugel **, Great Lakes **1/2 and my favorite Hacker~Pschorr ****.
Ask for the $8 Hacker~Pschorr mail-in rebate.......speaking of Oktoberfest, has anybody ever been to the fest in Germany.  It's on my bucket list!

Try the Hofbrau-Munchen Oktoberfest...I'm not positive, but I believe it's a Hefe Weisen, my favorite type of beer.

i happened to be there two years ago during oktoberfest.  i gotta tell ya, i didn't have the time i thought i would.  granted, i was 20 at the time and the whole thing seemed more geared to a slightly older crowd, at least that's what it seemed like to me. it didn't live up to the hype as far as i'm concerned. not to mention i wasn't accepted very well for being as i was a young american. another thing that i didn't get was all the beer was room temperature, they like it that way.  i drank about 5 or 6 beers that tasted like they were sitting in a warm car all day.

I was stationed in Berlin in the 70s an I got to 2 of them, I would have to agree with an above post that they were geared to the older crowd. What I did like was the food,I thought it was much better then the beer but back then I didnt like beer all that much . Dru, you must have been pretty mellow after 5 of those beers, most people I knew were blasted after 3

Souther Tier out of Jamestown has an excellent Octoberfest.  Probably can't get it in Key West.  Although, next time I'll have my old man bring down a case, he's in Marathon

I have a barrel of the Sam Adam's Octoberfest on tap now.  Great stuff.  Almost gone actually.  Hacker Pschorr is some good stuff.  Had some at Claddagh last Friday.  More than anything, I wanted to steal the glass!

There's a lot of good pumpkin beers out there this time of year as well! Jacks Pumpkin Spice is my absolute favorite.

Has anyone tried the New Budweiser American Ale? A rep came into the store I work at today and gave us each one. Reminded me of Yuengling. Was not what I expected from Budweiser.

sorry guys , its not germany but I just returned from Georgia and was able to check out the Brick Store in Decatur. this place is the best pub Ive ever been to. They even have a Belgium bar for the beer geeks. what a place. If ever in the area this is a must do for any beer lover. great place for sure. These guys even pour your beers in the appropriate vessel and the staff are well educated in beer.

I have been enjoying some great brews by terrapin and sweetwater lately. they both do an excellent rye pale ale. Ive also been enjoying an indian brown that is hopped out by sweetwater. Its called motor boat. IPAS and Belgiums are my favorites. I was able to drink a belgium by scaldis that dials in at 12% but u would never no it. U could definitely drink several but might pay for it later. I would love to know how they hide all that alcohol and create such a great tasting beer.

The Budweiser American Ale reminds me of a hoppier version of Sam Adams Boston Lager.  The Sam Adams does cost almost $9 more a case.

While I'm not a huge fan of pumpkin beers, I do like the taste.  One pumpkin beer is plenty though.  After one I'm ready to switch beers.  I've had just a few pumpkin beers; Blue Moon Harvest Ale, Dogfish Head Punkin Ale and my favorite, Buffalo Bill's Pumpkin Ale.

Copied from thr Hacker~Pschorr website about Octoberfest:

"When Ludwig I, the Crown Prince of Bavaria, was to celebrate his wedding in Munich in 1810, he decided it was an occasion for all of Bavaria to celebrate. He commissioned Josef Pschorr, then the brewmaster of the Hacker-Pschorr brewery, among other Munich brewers, to develop special brews to commemorate the occasion. The beer was so good that the party lasted for days and both the Oktoberfest celebration and beer were born.
Subsequent annual celebrations evolved into the city of Munich's world-famous Oktoberfest, which is attended by more than 6 million people each year, who consume over 6 million liters of beer. By Munich law, only the six breweries within the city limits of Munich are invited to serve their beer at Oktoberfest. Hacker-Pschorr is one of the six, as is its sister brand, Paulaner."
