Anyone fish it much this time of year and have any success?  I was thinking of popping in sometime next week and just wondered if it was worth it.

I don't fish Oil Creek that much but with the rain we have been having-look out your window, the creeks are still great for trout fishing. I have been catching fish every day by my place. This time of year on Oily Crik, you can also get into some smallmouth, usually not huge but always fun.

Well you guys were right on two accounts. The smallmouth were biting and the water color was pretty brown on Tuesday.

I'll give the full report:
I got to Oil on Tuesday afternoon and decided to give it a whirl despite the 88 degree temps and brown water color.  The conditions werent good for trout at all but I did land 3 smallmouth all about 10"-12".  Fun fighters on ultralight tackle.    Switched to bait and was bombarded by the chubs so I hung em up.  The water levels were perfect but the temps and mud coloring werent right for trout, but looked like things were clearing up for the morning

I got up this morning and figured I'd hit the stream early while the temps were low.  I stepped in the water at 6:30 and it was about 66 degrees outside.  Fishing the same stretch of water as the day before it was a while new ballgame.  I landed trout after trout for about 3 hours.  Many had very brilliant coloring, obviously they were the preseason stockings that got their natural color from a regular diet for the past 5 months.  Some other looked like stocked trout, probably from the early June stocking.  All in all I ended up with 21 trout this morning.   I kept two, one was a 20" Palomino and another was a 15" Brown that was a nice fat holdover.  Had a fish fry tonight, can't beat it.   I'll post pics of the Palomino and Brown later this week when I get them downloaded!

Here is the pic.  Unfortunately the brown was dead for about 11 hours before I took the pic so he lost most of his nice coloring.  The palomino measured in at 20" and the brown was about 16"
