Where can one go at night around here to fish? Years of angling and tournament experience here but new to the Pgh. area. No boat for now, so I am relegated to shore fishing. Any tips are appreciated.

Around Here? Pittsburgh is pretty big. I prefer Highland Park Dam on the sharpsburg side. Also where pine creek enters the river, lock 3 in harmarville, emsworth dam on the rt. 65 side, across from heinz on river avenue, these are good areas for a mixed bag, walleye, sauger, bass, catfish, carp, white bass and more. Behind the prison off rt. 65 is good for carp and cats, also any sewer overflow along the river after a good hard rain is great for carp and cats. Also any of the streams where they feed into the rivers are productive 99% of the time.

That's disgusting...  The likely by catch of toilet paper, tampons or condoms should be mentioned if you are attempting this.  The smell alone is horrible enough.

They definitely do attract fish though.

Highland Park dam at Sharpsburg is definitely the place to go...

Highland park is premier fishing on the allegheny, it's definitely worth the trip. There are usually a few folks there.

It's a mixed bag down there really, but others will let you know the best times to fish, etc.

One warning about night fishing, in few attempts i've made to night fish from the shore i've run in to some interesting characters that frequent the shores of the river at night. I myself definitely would not be down there alone.

I was joking about it being the best, although it is good night fishing.  It's a bit of a hassle to get to though.  I wouldn't worry too much about the company, usually pretty good guys.  Some, may give you the feeling that you are not welcome, since they "own" the place...

You're right about being cautious at Highland Park fishing at night. I tried it Thursday evening with a friend. A shady character comes along and wants us to give him our equipment, so he doesn't have to call his "boys". I had brought along another friend named Smith & Wesson, and he convinced the creep that we wanted to keep our equipment. He disappeared quickly, but we beat feet out of there in case he DID have some boys to back him up. I won't be going back there anytime soon. We got skunked for the evening, anyway.

The Mon River at the mouth of Dunlap Creek in Brownsville, PA. It's safe, clean and even lighted. The Mon Wharf in Monongahela and the mouth of Pigeon Creek in the same town are also good. Finally, don't forget about the mouth of Montour Run in McKees Rocks and the mouth of under the West End Bridge in Pittsburgh.

That's Saw Mill Run.  I've had clowns cast over top of me while I was fishing from the rocks below, during THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY...  I wouldn't even consider night fishing there.  The parking there is pretty horrible too.

I also had similar experiences at the mouth of Chartiers Creek, and wouldn't consider night fishing there as well.  There is usually raw sewage in that creek mouth with any rain, and usually 2-3 days after.

Doesn't matter if its public or not. A short bus will only hold so many retards on one trip. Besides I'll stick to my little slice of pie.

3 of us.

Didn't get sh*t.

Caught 2 15-16in. catfish. That's it. Fished for about 3 hours, few hits, not many.
