I'd wait for the fall stocking before I fished montour for trout.  There's a few small smallmouth and a bunch of suckers hanging around tho.  The mouth of the creek is alright if your throwing clousers or something like that for small mouth this time of year, but nothing great.

Thats the only Montour Run I know about as well.  I wasn't aware there was a trout stream around Mars other that the little connie but that out between Evans City and Zelienople.

For the last several years I've been happily surprised to find that yes, there are holdovers even in the hottest summers. You will have to WORK to find them though, then to make them hit.

I google mapped it and it's somewhere between Mars and Gisbonia. What I did was just put in from Zelienople to Montour Run & it estimated like 17miles? Not sure how farther I'm going to have to go, on the map it's right by 76.

Luvinbluegills, I can relate. It's either you get their super early or you catch them feeding. It's tough in July & August.

You're looking at something wrong I'm afraid... Montour Run flows North into the Ohio River- it flows in opposite Neville Island. The only stream between Mars and Gibsonia that I'm aware of is Breakneck Creek- it is small, though it is quite shaded. No trout though, just a bunch of chubes, maybe a few small bass or the occasional carp- it flows into the Connequenessing Creek near Evan City.

If we are talking about the Montour Run in Allegheny county, I have seen 1 trout there this month.  The water temps have been in the 70s so it is pretty much a smallmouth water recently.  If you are hunting trout you are best waiting until October when they do their fall stocking.

If we are talking about the Montour Run in Butler county, I have driven over it but never fished it.

It has been a while since I have been over there.  I have never walked it at all but it is pretty tiny as far as I could see from the road.  For those wondering where it is it flows into Pine Creek around where Wildwood Rd meets S Montour Rd.  This is in Allegheny county and the one I have driven over but never fished.  As far as the Bulter county part of this stream I am now questioning if I have seen it up there.  I don't have any good topo maps on me from the area up there.

I have no clue how good or bad it would be...there is one way to find out though!  For my trout needs lately I have been heading out to the Laurel Highlands and sticking with smallmouth fishing close to home (Sewickley).

I dropped the girlfriend off at Robert Morris yesterday and headed down to check out montour run. I caught a few bluegill and saw some decent smallmouth. I also had a 10-12 inch rainbow turn on my woolly bugger, but he didnt take it.

the montour run flyfisherman is referring too goes into pine creek near north park. very small creek maybe 3-6 feet across. im sure some trout swim up from pine creek but i dont think it has any reproducing population. you can still get some trout from pine creek if you really work it. not sure if you will get any trout from montour run

I have fished Laurel Hill Creek in the past.  There are usually fish there but they see a ton of pressure so keep that in mind as you are moving on the creek.  The access is easy with a pretty nice trail running along both banks of the stream, which is a blessing and a curse.  Whenever I hit it in the summer the water levels are usually lower then their spring levels making the fishing a little tougher for me (I am not the best caster).

I fished Pine Creek yesterday and to my surprise it looked like a great trout stream, even in the dead of Summer. Water was good, fish were active, and no one was there . Seeing that there wasn't a hatch I tied on a foam beetle, size 16, and had 2 browns. I had to walk downstream quite far though..

Yeah, I've found some fish... I mostly fish lakes (not by choice, rather distance..) and I do all right. Unfortunately, it's a pain to fly fish so I bring the spinning rod some time. I've been looking into trout streams around here only because I think it's more fun stream/river fishing. Sometimes I get a chance to fly fish back east (Susquehanna county..) and do really well with natives, actually heading out tomorrow for the week. I'm not much of a hatch matcher, so I carry a box full of hand tied Copper Johns, San Juans worms, foam beatles, and I do pretty well. About only fishing for trout, it's kind of funny you brought that up. I only fish for trout but have branched out with Lake Arthur so close.. I've caught some smallmouth here and there but nothing of size.

I've been thinking of hitting up Laurel Hill Creek & Meadow Run soon.. I probably would know both pretty well if the damn gas prices weren't so high.

KJH that was a hilarious pic!
Flyfisherman, montour run, deer and pine creek are both small creeks that get stocked and fished out quickly, but there are always a few holdovers once they have been fished out.  If u can go at off peak times and a few days before or after they have been stocked, u can avoid crowds.  They are a couple of poor excuses for trout streams though, here is sw pa.
Deer creek does have a fly fishing only section, that is north of Pgh, closer to you than montour.
