Bay Rat lure colors

Warmer weather has me thinking about trolling for walleyes on the lake. Heard good things about Bay Rat lures. Want to pick a few up. What are some of your favorite colors?

Never used them.  Always thought they were a bit pricey.  I just checked FishUSA, seems they came down in price, maybe to better compete with Reef Runners.  I use Reef Runners, buy them 2 at a time in the same color/pattern.  Chartreuses, purples, all the wonderbreads.  I bought the lure tuner too and keep it around my neck.

Bay rats are pretty nice stickbaits, as good as reef runners at least. I still prefer flatfish to both, though. Mainly use them for Lakers in Chartreuse or green. For walleye, any bright obnoxious color should work. Stick down a purple/pink or fire tiger bay rat on a flatline or board rod and check it in an hour, 75% of the time in my experience there'll be a hitchhiking walleye on it out in 30-80 FOW.

When all else was failing one day I pulled one of those old red head lures with the white body out of my tackle box.  Couldn't keep the eyes off of it.

Old school Bombers are great lures, no doubt. They do have their time and place.

I got about 60 long A Bombers deep divers two willys file type stand up tackle boxes  full of another old school lures NK's and Pirate spoons but I guess they don't work either. I fished the big pond from 78-94 every Wednesday,Thursday, and Friday till noon. Then my family became more important. I averaged 35- 40 days a year fishing eyes, and was one of the early guys doing it,saw riggers, steel line, boards and dipsys, jet divers, leadcore make there way onto the seen. It was unbelievable fishing back then,we started in Conny Ohio and ended in Dunkirk or Barcelona NY. Then on to Ontario for the reel fun,man those Kings and Steelhead where the ticket.Hey those Bango's and Killer B's still work? Got a pile of them also, not my favorite to much tuning. Thunder Sticks, tots, wiggle warts and Bill Norman still catch fish ?  Been there done that. Good fishing gents. The Bay Rats look great ,great colors. I'm sure I'd have a pile of them if I still did the deep water thing, but they look like a long A knock off to me. lol  Good fishing guys.

A good lure retriever,is a must when trolling Hot an Tots on Pymy. Another fun thing to do after you get your limit. Beach your boat on the several islands and get back some lures. The hooks rust out and they float and wash ashore. A quick clean up and hook replacement and there back to putting eyes in the box. I found way more than I lost.

Shenango River below the sluices should have tons of lures buried in that turbulent outflow....especially Rapalas ! A friend told me years ago they shut the flow off for about an hour in Summer for some kind of inspection. Claims he got well over 50 Rapalas stuck in all those rocks. Hooks all rusty but that's an easy repair.

Yea it was average to get 10-20 tots hitting a island or two, some lures where brand new,I don't know how they came unbuttoned, but they would,I also found some expensive Musky plugs but gave them away to a guy that just fished for musky. Tots,Raps, wiggle warts where the bulk of them. I even made a "Find me tackle box" of all the lures I found at Pymy. After revamping them I gave more of them away than I kept but those shiny new ones and are still in that box. lol

When my motor crapped out on me last summer I decided I needed something to do and started wading the shorelines with the dog. Found 80+ lures, many of which looked brand new. At $5 or so a piece brand new, figure i filled my tackle box pretty cheap. Got the motor running now, but I may have to still make time to go lure hunting a few times
