Since the change in management at the DSR the reports have definitely been more truthful then the past ones. Just did one day there just not my cup of tea it's not the money it's the type of water I'd rather fish a deep pool and there isn't too much of that compared to other spots on the river. After my trip to the coast with fichy I might have found the cure for my addiction, might be cutting down on the SR trips once I'm done dragging my dad around with me.

Might have to add a drive on sticker for the refuge, UF.  Some very good ones are showing on the beach. Let some air out of the tires and  hit some good holes and rips.  I did it years ago and got some nice blues, too.  If I had a choice of working in the humidity or trying for early sharks, the sharks would win.  End of the month will have to do.  You and Jack and I will give em' hell, and your Dad, too.

I'm just the opposite .
It's the water that always drew me there for salmon , the price keeps me away .
Their reports are still taken with a grain of salt

Likely be hit and miss for a while with each "hit' or little push ( even a couple of dozen) being made the most of.
Honest- most likely-but often misleading to anxious newbies unused to 'SR talk'.
Gotta remember what means little to no fish--

Regulars are catching them
Couple of fellas tangled with  with some yesterday
A few wayyyy up top
Some wayyy down low
They are spread thin, just  keep moving for them
They are in the estuary and likely to run tonight
Shoulda been here yesterday
Shoulda been here last week
Water is still low
Water is still warm
etc  etc etc--

You will KNOW when it gets going--read the fishermens reports.
You new folks- remember -a couple of hundred in DSR seems like a big deal when your there but gets real thin spread over the next few miles of river----

Seems late not to hear stories of a decent push of 200 - 300 or so....so far the DSR is talking 5 here, 20 there....Really nothing.

Water temperatures are still high, word from the Lake is that they are staging in distinct pods at different depths.  Supposed to get some colder weather early next week.  Interestingly, the west end guys are reporting few staging fish, either they are later down there or a significant number have moved to the east end.

Not to deflect but word on the lake is that fish are jumping all over the surface in front of the tribs , Oswego and SR just before dark . I am heading out to the boat for 6 days in T minus 5 hrs and will have a report. Huge waves expected Sunday 9-12 footers so that will be a dock day and it could trigger a bunch of fish to head up into the tribs

They do the porpoise act out in front of the Genny some years for 2-3 weeks before the thermal conditions let them run up the river.  But as you say, 9-12 footers will push some offshore, but push some others into the River.  I'm going to the 'daks Tues-Friday, and generally they run good while I am away!

Starting to remind me of the past couple of seasons-poor mid Sept showings.
Sounds like late August fish should be.
Likely some Hos in the  mix running in down low, then out again.
A pod of only a few hundred or less will soon show--- HOT reports to come  -- lol.

Cooler weather headed our way come Tuesday.  By weeks end night time temperatures will be in the low 50's.  I think this may be the recipe for a good run by the end of the week into the weekend.

Being a dock day I did some shopping . New j plugs and some hooks to tie trolling flies. No ice gear today :(
Got bored and started tossing a chug bug plug off the docks here . Slam , bam , see ya man . Pike stole my lure . Re tie with a smithwick stick bait and a hit and miss. A couple more tosses and produce of a 25" pike to the bank ( had to get off dock ).
Not a bad day just hanging out enjoying the day .
Try again before sun sets and winds calm

Tough day out there . Storms blew most of the fish off shore . There was a concentration of fish in pretty far north of the SR . Had 1 shaker , lots of lookers but they are tight to the bottom in deeper water . Heard temp is pretty warm right down.
Good news is lake played nice and brother in law got a chinook on his boat.

Try 1 more time before I pull up stakes :(

New norm ??
Or are we just getting itchy with low warm SR water ???
Getting some in the lake--yea--they oughta get some by now.
3/4 years ago lake reports of occasional 40s--now 30s (more usual).
We will see soon-----( but tend to agree with Rich)-- ( hope to be proven wrong).
Whatever- cant wait to get up there.
Never care about  big numbers -just one here or there and to see some.
Going extra nuts-
Knowing there are more seasons in my past than future increases the need to FISH---lol.

Snaggers will always grab their share no matter the number that enter . That may be the new norm . Lake trollers will grab their fish . With a daily 30-100 boats it's a given .
Steam fishers will struggle

What a pessimist!.....If they are out in the lake they will come.......reports from the lake were positive.

Just spoke to the fellow I will be staying at up there this year and he says there are fish thru-out the river but not in big numbers.....yet!The lake has lots of fish. The  DSR reports that activity picked up today with multiple hook -ups and landed fish. When the water cools off to the mid 60's the action will pick up.

It's legal to keep fish, what's wrong with that?  How do you snag, trolling?

Sounds like a great new source of info, Jack. Pretty darn soon, now. I'll be  firming up the plans  in the next few days. Striper fishing has been  great, otherwise I'd be off the wall. Can't wait to head up to the secret spot.
