CATFISH STOCKING

As part of their catfish experiment the PF&B comm. stocked channel cats fingerlings approx. 4-10" in both the upper & lower Twin lakes to-day along with Canonsburg & Holman lakes. They also stocked them this past Nov.. Please handle them carefully so that they can grow up. We have been catching them this summer & the ones that they stocked seemed to grow a couple of inches since Nov.   sam

That's great news, though I'd bet the 4-6" fish don't have a great chance of avoiding getting gobbled up by the huge numbers of 10-12" bass. Catfish can't cost as much as trout to raise, shame they don't put em in at 8-12"

they do stock them as adults. they dont stock as many and they rotate them to different lakes. so maybe next year it will be those lakes.

I was at the Cannonsburg stocking. They stocked 1500 2" catfish and 1500 9" catfish. They also clipped a fin for identification purposes.

Can you imagine mixing a 55 gal drum of stink bait, flinging 10 pounds of chicken livers or, threading a shark hook with a 3' night crawler to catch that thing?

But, oh my, the fish fry ya could have!

Caught a fin clipped youngster at canonsburg last week...along with a few slightly larger and a  20" buddy and wife lost an upper 20 at boatside in the same spot in a 20 minute span at dusk....good to see em all getting along already

Those wels catfish are true beasts.  We can live without those things hoovering up everything that swims in our lakes.  That said, I always thought they should stock those giant euro-perch and those zanders.  30lb walleye?  Yes please!  Someone stocked some out west somewhere.  I'll have to look up the article.

Oh, they did a whole episode of River Monsters (maybe the worst and boringest show ever made to be DVRd) on that wels catfish.
