pymie - north end lily pads (wilson launch)

i've never been up there this time of year but was surprised to see how big the lily pad field got.  pads started from the point across from the launch and stretched as far as the eye can see.  is that normal for that area this time of year? or are we in uncharted waters with the heat/low water levels?

pic is directly in front of the launch looking away from the launch.  the pads go all the way around the point to the right and extend further to the left towards clark island.

Fished Wilson launch from shore about two weeks ago. It was my first time fishing that area. I was just exploring after camping with my daughter's family down in Jamestown. I didn't have any luck but the area looked good and I saw numerous fish jumping and hitting something in the Lotus( I thought they were big lilies). Anybody have any luck shore fishing the Wilson launch for bass?  It is a beautiful area but such a long drive from Pgh.  I tried plastic worms for a while but after seeing all the top water activity, switched to plastic frogs.

How big do you think they were? Were the "jumps" splashy, or were the fish just making disturbances on the surface without making a lot of commotion?

Most of the splashing was slashing hits on the pads. A couple were big jumps, all pretty much beyond casting distance.

You wouldn't catch me fishing that shallow water with the lake being as warm as I assume it is!

You're probably right Slabfinder. I didn't have any bites or hits when fished two weeks ago, just saw a lot of activity in the area.

I was fishing for bass. When I first saw that area it looked so good I swear I could smell the bass. Unfortunately the bass had other ideas.
