Took our 19.5' sea nymph out for the first time Saturday.  Waves were "less than 2" all day.  Got a little choppy, but never once felt that we weren't solid and safe out there.  Plenty of 16-19 deep Vs on the water, some of them I'm not sure I'd have been happy to be out in with 4+ people they had.  If I was ONLY going to fish Erie, and I wanted to go regardless of some snotty conditions, I'd look for a fiberglass rig in the 22' range or bigger.  That'd get you out there safely on most days that weren't absurd weather wise.

Nice weather, my boat is a perfect size.  Keeping in mind that I'm an Erie rookie, that's my 2 cents.

Im not an erie rookie just a smart erie fisherman whom has fished in his 17 foot lund pro sport for 9 years in this boat. Using common sense !!!!! When its nasty out there even a big fibergallass rig is no fun to be in.I had a 25 foot walk around in my younger days still wasn't no fun being out there. My advantage is I can trailer my boat to any lake pyma, mosquito, shenange wherever effort lessly my gas tank holds 26 gallons lasts for weeks my walkaround held 109 gallons and lasted just a few trips. Theres a trade off both ways. using common sense most of us with smaller 17 to 20 alum boats can fish safely in erie on most days!!!

I have a 16 1/2 ft Lund with a 90 hp Honda 4 stroke, that I use to take out close to 10 miles on Erie but after getting caught coming back in, in 4ft waves, I decided I wont do that again. 2ft or less, darn the rest, is my motto. I've been fishing with friends with bigger boats since then. Icenut's boat is pretty comfy out there and we catch some good fish too. Anybody need a seat filled, give me a holler here.

I didn't say but I have a Tracker Targa V-18 w/115 Merc Optimax. I finally made it to Erie a couple of weeks ago for the first time. We only got to fish one day  instead of the planned three. It was a great day. It was a pretty good learning day and we caught some fish. Decided to make this post just to try and learn more of what you more experienced guys do. Thanks again for the info that I have received on here. Everyone has been very helpful. My first experience on Erie was good and now I think I am hooked.:)

I have a starcraft 196, I've fished the canadian line off the point plenty of times, been close to 20 miles off conny and bula, fished in small craft advisories, and in skim ice and about everything in between.  Get to know your own limits and your boat's and dont push it.
if you are hooked all I can say is good luck and kiss any extra money you have goodbye LOL
