Trev it wouldn't hurt to winterize soon... But definitely a few weeks of true fall weather left. It takes days in a row below freezing to burst pipes in doors... Outdoor hose bibs are another story though.

Well got back a bit early from the camping / hunt adventure.
Yesterday was a decent day with a little time in a tree. Seen some tenderloins but none hit the ground . Decided to cut a bunch of firewood and load the trailer . Once it got dark the white stuff started flying.
Wind got horrendous overnight and blew Matty's tent apart, somehow mine stayed upright.
When daylight came it was a winter wonderland . A few inches of white stuff on the ground which woulda made hunting great but the wind was hollowing , ah the gales of November !! Figured we would clean up and get out while the getting was good . Well it wasn't .
4 WD wouldn't work on my buddies diesel Dan dodge 2500 and stuck it was with a trailer loaded with about 3 cords of wood. Thankfully the Trusty Toyota Tundra had enough azz to pull that dodge and trailer to high ground.. Home safe and somewhat sound..
NOW I'm ready to string up a rod and try for some fishy !!

Wind was howling today and had more than one gust that pushed the fly upriver.

Now they are talking another arctic blast for the weekend. That possible 4-6 hour LE ride home makes me think twice.

Drove through somewhat messy conditions in the dark... Already seeing the overzealous folks just in a rush to get home. Wont be long til we see ten cars off the road on the way to or from work...Clint, it seems south and east of the lake got colder and more snow... Shear sign of what's to come once the real cold fronts start coming through as the lake surface temp is much warmer than the air at this point... Only a matter of time and we'll get a real pounding

Sounds good HT. Spent today stacking more wood and  cutting a few trees for next year.  Then I found that basted of a leak in the tractor that had been alluding me for two months. Power steering hard line was only leaking when I pulled a full turn. Spliced in a new line with a compression fitting and so far it is holding.

May try to find some water tomorrow if all holds well.

Lotac didn't really need to patrol the upper. It's been pretty clean this year. A few cans and wrappers, but pretty sparse and mostly clean. Hope it stays that way til closing.

Glad its looking fishy.
Calling for a couple days of warm up now that they hadn't been before.

My take on the cleaness.
While it could always be worse it is plenty trashed.
From my Thurs trip.

Admittedly some of that is my own but there was plenty left when I left.
Should have gotten a pic of some of the line balls .
Mostly coffee cups water bottles and cans.
All things that were heavier to carry in.

Re:Weather thread 2014/11/09 06:09:51 (permalink)
In '76, I got to go up to Quebec for some red trout fishing.  There was a $0.10 deposit on beer bottles then (can technology had not become commonplace in Canada yet).  We stayed at the camp of one of the guys dad, which was in an area assigned to a local outfitter where we bought licenses and ice (out of an old ice house) and rented boats that he hauled into the ponds with an ox team before ice out.  The Pond that he recommended was a 2 mile hike in from the dirt road, much like the 'daks but flatter.  When we arrived at the landing, we encountered a mess of beer bottles that made us think about bagging the fishing and just hauling out glass for the dimes!  Some people are just pigs, it is in their blood.  We joked around at a few spots this year that Hot Tuna was NOT here, when we saw a Busch can on the ground, we know all of HT's cans return with him, and probably any others he encounters as well.

It is time to request our legislators update fine structures that were set when gas was $0.50 a gallon, so that when levied, the fine has some sting.   Of course, this flies in the face of Big Andy's "New York is open for business, come dump your trash anywhere but Westchester" campaign.  If you want to get these Chartist brained a**holes to pick up after themselves, you would have to be removing  at least a day at Doug's and a night at Jailwater with dinner from their pockets.  A $75.00 fine is not worth the time for the Police Officers, and is chump change to the offenders.

We overheard a couple of out of staters say there should be more barrels to dump trash in.  I commented to them that they had plenty of room in their vehicle to haul the stuff up, why couldn't they haul it home. They looked at me like some crazy old man (Obvious straight line setup for 2B).  Worse were the two newbie fly guys at Pineville dumping 1/2 a quart of orange juice in the middle of the parking lot.  They won't be around to deal with the hornets and yellow jackets that draws.

Weather is here, wish it was beautiful!

Just enough rain  to blow out the Genny!  May have to drive north on Tuesday, checked my secret frog water spot yesterday, and caught black bellied browns, big bruisers, but just not the speed and excitement of the chromers,  and the flow upstream on that system is dropping to low and clear very quickly.

I'm an early riser today but we are not going to rush to the water. We will let the crowds find their spots then fill in after.
Always carry any of my trash out and yes in the UFZ yesterday , we picked up some others left behind.

Slight drizzle this am but I will take 41 degs any day this time of year.
Plan is to toss some sacs, beads and a little hardware also.
Should be a great day on the water . Can't wait to see the face of a newbie when that drag starts screaming :)
Yesterday was a tease ..

I  didn't say the upper was spotless, but it was sure better than the absolute shat holes I saw elsewhere.  Next year I'll just fish Chartist waters and have my ghillie chase down my windblown plastic and styrofoam. Cheers.

Took my boy back yesterday with my father for a couple of hours. Trash is worse than I've ever seen back there. Hadn't brought a bag with us. Probably could've filled 2... Disgusting. The little guy managed to have his float go down and reeled in an 8 inch creek chub. Was really hoping it was a little rainbow or brown but he was happy. I saw no action in two hours time with a lot of boats and people... I was a sideline watcher

Sorry to hear that, Andy. Just because it's a bank rights area, doesn't mean it's not your property. People treat it like its a free public dump, not the results of hard work and  great effort on someone's part to own a piece of what they hold dear.  F'in  ignorant pigs!!!!!!! If  you had any control it would very different.  Hope your little guy gets a good one before the season turns off.  Soon, some snow banks will hide some of it and the litter will slow down.  By the way-get out there and get one for yourself, too, time is passing.....

Thanks fichy. I'm gearing up for a few late afternoon weekdays and early weekend mornings in mid - late November and the same in December. I did manage to find a nice drift boat oar back in the woods from last springs flood waters. Gonna try to get back there and do some clean up before the snow starts staying around. Maybe some personally made signs are in need as well. Any bank rights easement is for fishing purposes only. Not littering... If you know what I mean

While you all know how much I love hardwater , my winterizing is no where near ready yet.
I seen snow for almost a month now, I'm not quite ready for a deep freeze.
Working on putting another wood fired stove in a reconstruction area , aka man cave.. Short week and gonna have to cut some meat the next..
Give me 2-3 more catch up weeks before I may see a fish again.
