Not if they had the wide array of choices in weapons as the person who is asking for fly fishing help has in rods. They have the same wide array of choices that anyone else has, but choose to live that way and hunt with spears. Do you think they use spears because they have no choices, and could never obtain a high powered rifle if they wanted to?

Okay so i am usually a eye guy but i make a few trips up for the steelies and i would like to try using a fly rod instead of the spinning rod. Only thing is i know nothing about fly rods or bait so i am reaching out to you fly guys for some help. What is a good rod that isnt going to break the bank and any other tips or pointers you can give would be great.
it seems that it may just be more fun to catch them on the fly rod that is why i want to try something different
now cousin I told you I was thinking about starting to fly fish and you yelled at me about how the streams around here aren't big enough....now this? oh boy. We'll make the jump together and both look like idiots.........AFTER walleye season.
a 6.5' fly rod will fish ANY stream in this state... not being a jokester here.
And an elephant can be killed with a spear. But that doesn't make it the ideal weapon of choice.
so, who really cares? You seem mighty bored lately, take the dogs out for a walk, mmk?

Actually I'm not bored. A person new to the sport asked for some advice and they are told that a one-size-fits all solution is the best for anythng they want to do. They weren't asking to be misled, they were looking for help.

never once did I say a 6.5' rod was a one size fits all, just that any stream in this pathetic state can be fished with one... just don't get why you had to quote my post to make some ridiculous point the poster already knew was a tangent to the original idea. I think the kid is smart enough to not fish a 7 foot rod for steelhead Dunc....

Do you think he is smart enough not use a 6.5 foor rod to try fish across the multiple currents of the Little J? Or do you think that he was looking for good advice and not a smart arse answer, which he got from you?

if you would READ the post, I replied to a poster speaking about a 6' foot round range and where it has it's place, no where did I lead the reader to believe fishing the lil j, or any other larger body of water, other than a small freestone stream, would be ideal w. that many feet in a stick. it's ok, sheetz has walmart reading glasses pretty cheap these days.

Who the eff fishes a 6ft flyrod? My daughter is 9....hers is 7ft...
ps seems your the one thats bored.....or 13....you pick
I don't always snag fish, but when I do... I choose Little Cleos I'm the best looking smartest snagging poacher alive...

I heard "Whatsajob" is making custom 6 1/2' rods. You can get them at Sportsmans Warehouse

yea it went downhill fast but i did get alot of advice some from the thread most from pm's. Thanks to everyone for their input.
