There it is, folks, evidence that the Motherlode has migrated to Michigan. Sorry about this, but there'll be no steelhead fishing in Erie this year. Better luck in 2011, see you then.

I live in South Central PA now, but Im from L'Anse MI. Ive fished the st mary's often...awesome is the only way to describe it. only about 2 months of the summer that doesn't have fish. When your ready to fish it, let me know, I have friends that will show you where to fish (NO COST). People up there arnt snooty, like they are in NY.

Im going to try fishing the Salmon in NY next week, and if not as advertised then its off to MI for some real fishing.

The fish your seeing on the cam right now are a mix of Pinks and Atlantics. The Coho and Chinook are in the lower river. The steelhead will follow the Chinook and coho upstream then winter over in the river.

Also its not fishermen wall to wall. the river is only one of say 300 that get sizable runs. The St. Mary's is also about a mile wide with more than enough room for everyone.

Michigan has Big Water 1/4 mile+ wide, Medium Water 50 yards to 1/4 mile wide, and Small Water less than 50 yards wide. I mostly fish the Manistee, Pierre Marquette, Betsie, Platt, Rogue. Sometimes I fish the St Mary's and the Muskegon.

I fished the Garden River, near Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, two years ago in late September. Had a blast - nice sized kings and more pinks than you could shake a stick at. really nice trip. I'll be back.

You wont see Muskie there as the water is too cold, but just downstream in Munuskon bay I caught my largest N. Pike ever - 43 inches long nice brownish green color with red / orange fins.

nah, don't know 'em. sounds funny though.

when I fished the Garden we were camping on the rez, out in the bush. pretty much out of touch with the rest of civilization.

the pinks were a lot of fun, I had never caught one before so they were a novelty for me.  there were so many of them though that after a few days we began to look at them as almost a nuisance.

lots of wildlife out there - bear, moose, wolves, lots of eagles. it was pretty cool.

yes, I go over that way from time to time. My cousins live on the reservation in North Bay Ontario. I lived on the Baraga Reservation when I was a kid.
You forgot the BUCKS! My first buck was when I was 10 with an old savage 99. 15 big points non-typical, and Im not joking...rack looks like tree limbs.
