i was just wonder, does anyone use attractants such as deer cane in the early part of the year to get good cam pics? i have never tried it, but heard that it works well.... i assume its to late in the year to start now, dont want to be hit for baiting in archery, but was thinking about using it next year in June and July... anyone have experience with it? please share!!!

Not a big fan of the salt/mineral type attractants in my hunting areas as their residue last for a long time.  I like to put out trail cams in the areas I hunt to see what is there.  I use natural bait such as apples and corn to get my pics.  Stop in September so that there is no trace close to my stands.

April, May and June the blocks will get hit hard.  Now not as much but they will still get use.

I use natural attractants too.   I drink as much water as possible, make a scrape, and do my thing.  They come investigate, even off trails.   They stop every time.   Make sure you make the scrape and do yer thing before setting up the cams. Might end up with some unwanted pics.

Don't spend a lot of money on fancy deer attractants if all you want is pics.  A $7 mineral block from Tractor Supply will do just fine.  Of course these are 96% salt.  Very little mineral content, hence the price.  As the above posts mentioned, be aware that the residue can last for several months.  Technically you would have to remove a couple yards of dirt to clear it all out to be legal.  We put smaller, higher mineral content blocks out in the early spring, but do not replenish during the summer.

Deer Cocaine works better for me in the Northern part of the state,in the big woods, where the soil seems poor. Down in SW PA, deer tend to ignore it. I start putting mine out in March or April and usually quit right before archery starts. I should mention that I do not hunt over it, or anywhere near it-like not even the same county. I've been using the same spots for years and some of them are foot deep holes now.
