So its that time again...

time to bet on when the first picture of a fall steelbow is posted with the claims of wall superiority
without a doubt it will include standing on dry land wearing neoprenes on an 80* day
there will be a phrase like "killing them"... "rope fest"... "secert (or) hot bait"
there will be at least 3 fingers in the gill plate and the fish will have sporadic coating dust/dirt from flopping on the ground

i predict Thursday AUG 26th

what say you???

I concur with kevin... but will add to it.

The guys neoprene waders will be camo. His hat will also be camo, and will display the logo of the company that manufactured his pickup. Also, he will be sporting the oakley knock offs he purchased at the gas station on the way there. The stringer will be made of yellow rope.

Some wording in the post will say how many he hooked, how many were landed, and how many were fair hooked.

WOW What a welcome thought another steelhead season just next month, I predict the first picture of a stream caught steeel-head in mid to late August, however I won’t catch my first one til Oct. on a egg imitation, or sucker spawn, maybe a prince nymph or gold ribbed hares ear, can’t wait for that first hit… FISH ON

Don't know what all the posts are for...
I caught, fought, landed, and released one yesterday.
It was a 7 pound 26 1/2 inch female, ripe with eggs in Upper Elk.

A local great stick got 1 in the river 3 weeks ago on a 5wt using a popper in the evening. Solid 7/8 pound fish. 70+ degree water plus 5 wt equels dinner. Does that qualify as early fall or late spring?

The first fish will be landed at the mouth of Elk Creek by a "non-pittsburgher"  Angler will be from Cranberry.   He will catch it on a 7 foot heavy action spinning rod spooled with bright red 20 lb. test line that was on it when he purchased it from Wal-Mart.  The fish will be captured using a Little Cleo spoon, one with the naked chick on the back.  Date will be... Prior to the September goose season opener.  BHeverage of choice "in picture" will be "Arn City"

FIRST stream caught steelbow of fall '10...

The first day of Fall is Sept 23.
So, my guess is Sept 23 at 3:30 AM by some night fisherman on walnut fishing a glow in the dark jig,,,, tipped with a couple of maggots,,,  hung off a lighted bobber.

Second guess is: Sept 23 at 3 AM by a team of russian immigrants netting and filling garbage at the falls above the chutes.

I like my chances.

First steely pic will be in the foreground of a yellow tent with a rebel bikini hanging from one of the support ropes and Harry's waders underneath em.

Yes, but the original post said "Stream Caught"! Since you can't fish in Trout Run, that eliminates it from the contest, and consideration.

Went to Trout Run today. Wind N NE, chopped. Nothing of size even in the nursery waters. Ran into one guy at Walnut asking about browns.

Interesting thought on the browns you mention.  As I'm not familiar with the NY runs, do they tend to come in before or around the same time as early steel?  Not talking about the ones that stayed around Walnut all year.  Figured browns are slightly better in warm water.

Hope I didn't let the cat out of the bag.  Just wondering.

Well, just look at 6point7's avatar--the cat is out of the bag.

From what I gather, the New York browns run well in October. I am hoping to make a drive up to Oak Orchard this fall.  We have had some show up here in late August into September. But not all that big or in great numbers yet. We are hoping to start getting good runs.  I tell guys down at Walnut, "Yes, you may keep it, yes you paid for a license and stamps. But if you want to see bigger runs and bigger fish, put 'em back for now."

My prediction is Jenna Jameson will catch the first one, while sitting in her tent at Folly's camp ground.

I would say second week of September. And No it will not be Jenna.  LOOL

Catching them on the shoreline from what I have heard. Wouldn't be surprised if some were already caught at first or last light in the streams.

I guess it all depends on your attitude towards that guy you describe. You may very well be right, but thats not the point. Its the attitude that a FEW on this site convey-that certain methods of fishing, gear, clothes, etc-are lower class or quality than the supreme methods you have. Basically, it comes down to "I'm better than those fools and here's why..."

Its fishing man, neoprenes or breathables, fly or spin, bait or not, yinzers or locals, at the wall of nuts or on native streams, you get the idea.

"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men."
Matthew 4:19
