A beautiful morning 7/2
I got home from work Friday morning, worn out from a very long shift. It was turning into a beautiful day, but still very chilly on the hill. I was looking forward to a warm bed for a couple of hours of sleep, but we had a fishing trip to the river planned for the evening and some more bait was needed, so the nap was put on hold for a while....
I packed up my dog and some bait, put on more layers than what you would ever think is needed for a July day and we headed to a small local lake. Only one fisherman there on our arrival, looking for some bass but not having much luck. After a few moments of chit chat Mindy and I grabbed our gear and headed to a shoreline area I have known to hold the panfish before. (Mindy doesn't carry much, she's more into the moral support! LOL)
I was pleasantly surprised to find the benches hadn't been vandalized yet and other than a birds nest of old line left behind by someone it was looking better than other trips.
Well, I set up my lines and Mindy set off to explore the nearby area and was soon playing in the water.
I caught a few cooperative bluegills for the bucket but found myself spending more time just enjoying Mindy's antics and taking in the morning than I did bobber watching! LOL
I think she felt it was her job to scare fish out of the shallows for me!
This beautiful, peaceful looking tree caught my line near the end of the morning... I broke the line (only 4# test, doesn't compete well with trees) and my slip bobber was left dragging in the water about 10ft from shore.... Mindy to the rescue!! Boy am I glad we taught her to 'go get it'! LOL... here's the proud 'retriever'...
No mosters were caught... no special species... no great numbers... but what I did get from this trip is some true relaxation and a chance to enjoy a beautiful summer's morning dabbling for bluegill... what kid wouldn't love that? and why do we forget what that was like...
I am just grateful for a few hours reminder of a time when worries were fewer and fun was easier to find... thought I'd share...
