Beer vs Wine after Steelhead Fishing?

I've been on this site for many years under many alias's.... my own stupidity with PCs and the internet... so forgive me for posting this rediculus question... (let me know if it is worse than alot of other humurous posts).

Some of you may have already met us (Tony, my brother-in-law and I) after a hard day of fishing (usuually December thru March) when we asked you to have a Beer and you accepted... wow, those discussions were great!  Hope you enjoyed the flies I gave you too.  The question is... at the end of day... do you prefer Beer or Wine with Steelhead?

Sorry for rambling but I just wanted you to know I'm going crazy waiting for the Steelhead season to start.   See you on the those snow/ice covered streams soon!

If I ate the steelhead it would most likely be mouthwash, not real crazy for their taste. All kidding aside, after fishing, I like my beer and keep them dark.

    Hefalump,
Traditionally a slightly lemony/fruity white wine goes best with fish.  The heavier the "fish" the sweeter the wine.  However with steelhead I find that copious ammounts of cheap red wine make the fish taste go away somewhat.  However good fresh steelhead go well with light white.  As for drinking after steelheading, if I am toasting my success: a good single malt scotch whiskey, if I am bemoaning my lack of success:  Beer, usually an amber, without any of that fruity taste.

White dry wine, or red dry wine, or lager, or pilsner, or ale, or maybe a Canadian Club, or a Margarita, or Manhattan, Vodka on the rocks, or ..... what was the question?

With fish, any fish...wine all the way.  I like Reisling with fish myself, but as a general rule...white wine goes best with fish.  Now after steelhead fishing, I like a nice cold beer...And my watering hole of choice would be Calfin's, our traditional stop on our way home.  I happen to make my own wine and wine making season is soon around the corner right along with steelhead fishing!  And looking forward to it!

With a good tasting fish I like a dry white wine......with steelhead, throw the filet in the trash get a burger and have a nice dark beer and a shot of JD... nothing beats that after hard day of fishing in the Winter.

In my opinion, Most fish tastes good when cooked fresh, even steelhead.  I do agree however, steelhead is not near as tasty after it has been frozen.  If I keep one here and there it is cooked sooned after it is caught or smoked.  Burgers, IMO, are summer grilling food complimented well with a nice dark beer.

I try not to kid myself and not drink beyond my socioeconomic status.  I usually start with some mad dog 20/20 and a shot of bottom shelf gut rot whiskey, then wash it down with a PBR (16 oz. of course), rap up the night by puking and passing out.  What a life, gotta love steelhead fishing!
