Status of Four Mile?

Just curious - I remember reading in a Fish and Boat Commission article a few years back that there were plans to install fish ladders on Four Mile to get steelies all the way up to I-90.  Does anyone know if they are still pursuing this?  There is a lot of public land along that trib if they can get past the golf course.

Yes they are!  Spoke to the President of Wesleyville Conservation this evening and it appears as though two ladders (near Behrend) will be in place this fall, while the one closest to the lake will be put in place in the spring of 2008.  Hope this helps.

Let me get this straight.  Ladders WAY upstream will be installed now, while the ladder that would allow the fish to REACH upstream will be installed next year.  Huh???

    Tim,

It has nothing to do with the PF&BC, ther than providing SOME of the funding. My guess is that, though they have approval to build the lower ladders, the specific plans have not been approved. The upper ladders apparently have final approval. So why not get THEM done while resolving whatever issue there may be on the lower ladder.

Make mine in fives, that way I can pull a Cartman and roll around naked in it.  "Ooowww.  Stan's money.  It feels so good on my body."

I see your point, but it's just odd, that's all.  I actually heard that the lower one is under way already.  Must have been misinformation.

A side note.  If you've ever fished the middle for stockies, will the steel be able to clear the **** by the tracks without help?  I don't see it except under raging conditions, and then do they really move up under those conditions?  Is G.E. going to remove a few of those like I heard?

    Tim,

My response was to pxatim, and it was a general comment not directed at either of you specifically. I am not that up to date with the specifics of the project. If I remember correctly, the Pa. Sea Grant is a major player in the project. You could possibley get info at the Tom Ridge center, or contact Wesleyville Conservation Club. It could be that the lower ladders could not be completed early enough, there is a short time frame in the summer in which these things can be done. No work is permitted after a certain date. Not sure what that date is.

    Skip,

That's awesome!  Is that the dam on the golf course property, or is this a dam upstream from there?

Looks like he was standing on the dam bank, holding his dam camera at a downward  angle.  Dam good picture if you ask me.

OK. I was at the mouth the other day and would have been worried about myself if I hadn't noticed that going on.

    According to the U.S.Treasury,
"In $100 bills, the weight of $1 million is about 22 pounds."

"In $20 bills, the weight of $1 million is about 110 pounds."

This is sweet I have always liked fishing 4 mile for some reason and hey, its uncharted waters.  Last year I hooked a fish that was definetly over the 15 pound mark in there, he was pretty easy to distinguish from the smaller fish stacked up at the swimming pool below the golf course, Unfortunately he didn't come to net.

I work for the state and believe me thier bureaucratic way of thinking would make your head spin. I believe spoony hit the nail on head though. We'll just have to be patient and take what we can get when we can get it.
Skip, nice pics thanks for the view.

Nothing has been done below Rt. 5. I'm there almost every day,
so I'd see it if there was anything going on.
