    KJH807,
Good luck and be careful!  There's some BIG, DEEP water out there!   If you have the time I'd head for the coast between Tillamook and Astoria.  Or, go up the Columbia to Hood  River and The Dalles.  There is tons of information on these areas on line and on the Oregan fisheries web site.  You are one lucky person.  There is so much good water in Oregon you may not want to come back.  You can try a columbia river charter I've heard they produce very well.   Big Fast water.  But there has been a drought this year so many of the streams could be low.  The drive up the 101 is worth the trip even if you don't fish.

Thanks for the river names. I also ran across the Klamath and Rogue, both sounded like good Sept fishing. After your Smoky mtn advice the columbia and hood will stay high on my list.

I actually saw the columbia back in April when I was in Washington (no rod, and from a road) it looked big and flooded...
    what about stergon in Astoria?

I'm looking for something I can do some wade/ walk/ and camp type trip (hopefully away from crowds).

    Man,
I was only there once back in the late 70's  was TDY at Yakima.  On the coast highway there were about a million small streams running down to the beach.  We just stopped in some of the little towns, asked a few questions and went out and fished.  I imagine most of that water is private now.  But it won't hurt to look.  Some of it is/was federal land.  Ya roll the dices and ya take your chances.  If it was me I'd check some of the small towns for tourist info.  As for camping... take scuba gear.  It's a rainforest.  Stay at motels on the coast.  When you go up the Columbia it is high desert.  Great camping.  Sturgeon, The Columbia is loaded with them.  Hire a charter and go for it.  I think the pinks are running about this time too.  But I could be wrong.  Try Google Earth.  Pick a small town and do an areial of it.  If it looks fishable, research it.  If it has fish Plan it!

i was there this pasr july.  i spent some time on the dueschetes flyfishing for rainbows and 1 day on the columbia fishing for sturgeon.  i highly recommend you try sturgeon fishing 1 day.  it's not every day you have a chance to catch fish 8 - 10 ft long.  the cost of a sturgeon guide is not that bad $150 for a full day.  pm me and i'll give you details.
