I still can't believe they were dumb enough to put that video on the internet. Talk about incriminating evidence. Throw the bums in jail.

Gentlemen,
Wow,  I was completely disgusted by this one.  What really bites my **** is that I hold a One Fly Contest so people who want to push their Fishing skill to the limit can test their ability; and these smug, self-serving wacko's do something like this.   I hope Ohio gives them the maximum they can.  But these guys will probably pay the fine out of "pocket cash" and film  it and put it on Youtube to show what they got away with.  I'll even bet the property was posted "No Fishing" to preserve the natural habitat.

I think everyone should e-mail the Ohio DNR demanding they throw the book at these guys. Just so they don't get a slap on the wrist. Does anyone know who the investigating officer is?

some one over at ohio game fishing did make a copy and has reposted it.  got another e-mail from odnr.  they stated that the investigation may take up to three months.  they said also that for the many who sent a message and the link, they can contact odnr after three months and they will let them know the outcome.  (kind of skeptical).  forget a fine for the perps, the should have to clean up trash along the whole shore of pymatuning or along every foot of steelhead water in ohio.

let's hope the odnr pursues it strongly.  i know if it was pa. there would have been citations issued already.  don't think ohio is quite as aggressive as pa.  they have one game protector per county (88) plus a floater for every few.  these guys have to investigate and prosecute both game and fish violations as well as all other outdoor sins.

Email sent to the Ohio DNR.  Maybe if they get enough emails it will help speed along the pursuit of these poachers.

thanks bug.  just a thought, but i think i am a little more tolerant when i hear about some poor guy poaching, although i don't condone it.  but these guys were not financially stressed from their appearance or attitude.  mistakes happen outdoors, but this was so blatantly thought out that the fine or punishment should be more severe.  obviously they were knowledgeable about the steelhead runs and had caught them before to have videotaped it like pros.  hope everyone who reads this post e-mails the odnr.  they will be forced to act more quickly.

curious Bug, Why are you so upset by this? is it the means in which these guys caught the fish or just that they broke the law?
for the record, I did'nt view the clip, I never log onto YouTube because of the key logging software. I do alot of shopping online and dont want to risk getting my bank accounts emptied. I'm just going on these guys description of the video.

if you were to ask me i would say it was because of the "in your face, i can do whatever i want" attitude that was shown.  many sportsmen and women work hard to protect this fishery and their good reputation and then you have idiots like this come along and give all of us a bad name.
btw, i am glad you posted that info on u-tube.  will pass it along.  thanks

RE: Watch this video.... 2007/08/14 13:28:00 (permalink)
The main reason for being upset about this is the total lack of concern for the law and the fact these guys decided to share their escapades with the world.  In this "monkey see, monkey do" society we live in, I can imagine that others will no doubt decide to do a little poaching for themselves.  Also, as a sportsman, it bothers me to see people like those on the video scooping up fish with a net.  I can understand a person who is in need of food doing something like this, but these folks were out for fun and a free meal.  I guess that as a sportsman, I try to follow the rules and allow the fish an opportunity for a sporting chance and expect the same of others.

RE: Watch this video.... 2007/08/14 14:31:19 (permalink)
Here is a copy of the message that I sent the ODNR, I think every sportsman should send a e-mail of there outrage.

To Whom It May Concern:
Recently I saw the video on “youtube” regarding the blatant poaching of trout in the Chagrin creek. Here is a link to the video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQv3gitmIXQ
As a sportsman I consider this a slap in the face to everyone. It is unbelievable to me that people would do something like this, have the nerve to film it and the gull to post it on the internet. I consider myself a sportsman and as such I live by a code of decency and ethics, when someone does something like this it makes everyone look bad. I believe that these poachers should receive the harshest punishment that the law will allow. They should be made example of. I feel that failure to do so would be an insult to every law abiding, ethical sportsman. Not to mention sending a message to every poacher that, “It’s ok and you will only get a slap on the wrist or get away with it period!” I am very interested in how this case will be handled and hope it is pursued with the vigor that it deserves.

I'm sure they're just sick of seeing the e-mails already...not just blowing you off.  Look at everyone who's checked this thread out and you've got to figure a decent amount have contacted the ODNR because of it.  Then factor in everyone else who's seen the video outside of this message board -- we all know that word travels much much faster now with the internet and having the world connected via one portal.  I wouldn't bet against them having close to 500 or more e-mails concerning this incidents just since it was posted on here.

Gentlemen,
I went just a leeettle bit further.  I not only contacted the ODNR, I also contacted the Cleveland Plain Dealer, and informed them about the infraction and that it had been reported to the ODNR.  BTW I also contacted the Sports section editor of said paper with the same message.  I encouraged them to investigate to see if the ODNR was doing anything.  There's nothing worse than a reporter on your ****.

inds, d'arcy egan, the outdoor writer of the plain dealer is a steelhead fisherman.  he has an outdoor column on fridays, i believe.  will pick up the pd and see if he mentions it.  fin, i got a couple of those types of response from her.  i will continue to pester her for info and post what i get.  the odnr is not like pa's wildlife or fish commission.  understaffed to the fullest.  i sent a message asking for info on an unrelated question but doubt if they will get back to me anytime soon.

RE: Watch this video.... 2007/08/15 06:32:34 (permalink)
While the video was disgusting and I agree they should be fined,  I think the attempt to completely embarass them has gone far enough.  I could be wrong, but they appear to own property along the river. Perhaps there isn't any access there already, but riding this so hard probably won't do much to conserve any future access there.

I highly doubt the ODNR  is just going to ignore this, and there certainly appears to be plenty of evidence on that video to find those guys.

As far as I'm concerned, they can do that anytime they wanted, as long as they allow access for real anglers to go down there and fish legally.  Yeah I know that might not be right, but without access to fish for them,  they are useless. A stocked, non-native fish that's inaccessible.
