Whats your best walleye rig??

My best setup that i like to use on the lake would be a bottom bouncer 3/4 oz leader off with some light flourocarbon to desired depth with a no.4 or 2  floating jig head green with a whole night crawler and drift fish.  Had great success last yr, on the lake useing this method.

riggers - seems like if I don't check em every 10 minutes I end up draggin an eye all over the lake ! 2nd - dipseys & meat. least - leadcore! some day I'm going to have to try bottom bouncers. Heard they worked real good last year with everything being in close like they were.   Dave

I did real well last year on dipsys rigged with a worm harness, watermelon or anything chatruese seemed to be the hot color.  This method, however is not my favorite way of fishing them.  My favorite method is drifting the bottom with a floating jig and walking slip sinker like Stealy mentioned.  I will most certainly use this method more this year.  Less tangles, more fun and feels more like fishing to me than working!!

Berkley Gulp! on the worm harnesses worked wonders... you could catch at least 3 fish on one and you'll never have the junk fish strip these off your hooks again.  When we tested them on one side of the boat vs. crawlers and the Gulp outfished them 3 or 4 to 1.

Like Storm said Loaded Question but 3/4 oz bottom bouncers on a nice chop of 3-5' LOL never new 3-5 footers to be considered a nice chop. Plus I would have to agree with Storm on the early season 25-45' scenario. One other thing I have noticed is one side of the boat usually out produces the other seems the port side on my boat is usually the hotter, anyone else noticed that or have any idea why. We also tried the Gulp but didn't get the same results as IUP.

tried the berkley for the first time last year and would have to say I'm impressed. Lasts longer, not as much mess (like I care), and short strikes don't seem to rob you as easy. Only tried the natural.may try different colors this year if I have room in my box. I can still lift it so there must be room. Dave

Dipsys and my own worm harnesses.....no better way to get em on erie...

if you are seeing one side of the boat hotter than the other it is a speed issue...one side is pullin harder or slower than the other...when you can dial in the speed you can keep all sides of the boat catching fish.

Hey C B how about an explanation on what you mean about dialing in the speed. We catch fish off both sides of the boat but the port side always seems to be more productive when using dipsys & Slide divers flat lined, doesn't seem to matter off the boards never could figure that out.

Fast or Extra-Fast rod, Fireline with fluorocarbon leader, Vib-E's, Cicada's or Sonar's on the end...jigged vertically.

Traveler...dialing in speed means taking alot into consideration...when you are trolling and noticing a distinct catch rate off one side of the boat over the isse is trolling speed.  Chances are that if you have your baits at the same depth as the others the issues is the speed at which you are pulling them...in most cases the differences is .1 or .3 mph in speed, but it does make a difference...

When you boat engine turns it rotates clockwise...this creates a slight pull to the starboard...this means that your port rods are being pulled "Slightly" and i mean "Slightly" faster than your starboard.......

    this means you either can:
    1. Speed up your boat...When i pull dispsy and harnesses i focus on 1.7-2.0mph on the GPS...Plugs i tend to be 1.8-2.2mph...this slight jump in speed may trigger a quick bite...
    2. Make long turns to one side or the other...create the hard pull on both your port and starboard side...see if it really is the issue...
    3. Always remember that color is not always your problem...there are 3 things a dipsy troller really needs to keep in mind...if the depth is right, the speed is right, color is your last problem to really look into...

Once you can "dial" all of this in, you can really start to see better catch and hookups of both sides as well as the back of the boat...experiment, experiment, experiment...is about the best thing i can tell you..

Check out walleye.com there Captinjohn.  Go to western basin reports and you will usually get some good info.  Last time I looked was still slow, but W. Sister area was starting to produce.

I'm not a lake fisherman for walleye but hit the rivers and streams hard for them.  Trolling it has to be a perch rapala on jet divers or bottom bouncers.  Jigging is my most productive w a parrot colored 1/8 on. jig and fathead being my favorite following black and chartruese  and orange and chartruese jig heads...
