I never have to wait at Presque Isle or Northeast either.  Walnut is some sort of parallel boating universe.

I think i agree walnut gets the most traffic...but ill also agree the best fishing is usually done on the west side of town...I see alot of the charter boats from Presque Isle taking the ride to the west side....

another launch on the west side would probaly get a great response.  There isnt even a gas station on the west side of town on rt 5!!

I'm heading to Geneva tomorrow...things seem to always run much smoother over there.  I wonder why?  Besides, the fishing has been a whole lot better to boot.

Geneva-on-the-lake State Park has the nicest launch facility I have ever used on the great lakes. I like the green / red sign system they use. Good idea. There was a while I was keeping my boat over there, stored at Indian Creek camping resort. Used to launch out of Geneva-on-the-lake State Park every weekend.

Had a fellow give me a tip once that really seemed to help me backing up a trailer. Steer the trailer not the truck.

hold the steering wheel @ the 6 o clock position, move the wheel the same way you want the trailer to go

I don't know if they still use it up Lampe would have signs out to direct traffic when it was busy.  Several days they would even have a guy out there directing traffic.

I didn't know it was for marina improvement too. I thought it was only for the property along streams. I guess that shows how sadly uninformed I've allowed myself to become.

Dan, Where would one start to try to steer money torwards the improvement of Erie launch facilities and marinas?

I have a call into PFBC. An officer gave me some info, so I called the lady that is in charge of the stamp money just waiting for her to call me back. The officer said that there is plans for an engineer to come up and look at extending the marine where the pine trees are. He also said that they are looking into extending the parking lot and looking to see if it possible money wise.

Kelly Sharp (717) 705-7841. Let me know if you hear anything. All I did was call PFBC in Meadville and asked them who to speak to about stamp money and how to get them to use it for walnut.

What would everyone say is the most needed improvement at walnut? I don't launch at walnut, I launch at lampes and make the run west by boat. Just the same, if walnut were better, I might launch from there. IMO, the biggest need at walnut is for a breaker wall to protect the channel from getting rough.

In my opinion if there has to be a stamp there should be two one for the lake and one for the tribs. Most of the money is going to the tribs as the psa is very involved the downriggers club which i am on the board should be taking steps to get a portion of the money for walnut i encourage everyone to join the club and get involved before it goes into the general fund and lost forever Dan

im more worried about making elk into a facility than improving walnut...my biggest gripe is the heavy traffic at walnut...another launch on the west side...may cut this down...not to mention offer dockin for larger boats on the west side...

Trout run would be nice.  But Parking would be a severe problem there.....Who owns that facility?

Not arguing CB.  Elk would be awesome as well....With as much money as the lake draws to the area though I don't understand why local municipalities are not leading a charge to get more facilities.

Better too far back, than too far forward.

Get on the horn and call...Offer your opinions about improving walnut to handle the high volume of boat traffic or a way to divert some of it away!...

A marina with gas, dockage, bait, ice, and some tackle on the west side of town would be a HUGE money maker...figure most marinas on erie charge like $1000 bucks a slip.....put in 200 silps and charge 5 bucks to launch....they would line up for dockage on the west side...

If such a marina would make "HUGE money", someone in the private sector would have built one.

The stamp money CAN be used to improve boating access. It has been used mostly for stream access for two reasons.

1) The situation is more urgent. The lake is going nowhere, stream access was being lost.
2) Groups like the PSA, and TU, along with the local communities pursued it.

Groups like the Downriggers, and the SONS, need to organize, and develope a plan. Included in that plan needs to be sources of matching funds, such as the DCNR, and local municipalities. The PF&BC can also suggest sources of matching funds, and grants. Thess groups need to meet with these officials to try and work out a plan. Complaints on a discussion board, and e-mails saying " do something" won't get it done.

Get Informed, Get Involved, And Make A Difference.

Just talked to Kelly, according to her the stamp money can't be used for upgrading facilities. It is used to obtain land and easements for fishing access to the tribs. She said that an engineer was sent up and he was told to look at the marine as if nothing was their and see what he could do. Kelly stated that they put a lot of money (not sure of figure) into walnut for upgrades and it runs with a deficit every year.

The PFBC is going to look to see if it is feasible for them to expand or make any other improvements. That is all I have, hope it helps.

If that is really the attitude, I'd be p.o.'d if I had a boat.  After all, it is called the "Lake Erie Stamp", not the "Lake Erie Tributary Stamp".  Heck, them thar steelhead spend nearly as much time in the big pond as they do the streams.(though less time each than they do on ropes and in smokers)

Spoon's right.  Yinz need to organize your efforts.  That's the only way beurocrats will be compelled to act, and believe me, if they have "Agency" , "Department", "Service", or "Commission" in their name, that's just what they are.

Good luck, and let me know where to sign when you guys get your petitions started.  Afterall, I may just be shopping for my own boat in a few years, so get to work.

While Pa wont miss my license money, Ive already quit fishing PA waters of lake Erie, so the local economy loses around $1500 for a dock, approx $3000 in fuel, probably another $2000 in bait, tackle, ice, parts, repairs, etc. Plus, being the boat is kept in OH, I had to get an OH registation, so no reg fee or gas tax gets back to PA, while Im sure no one at the PFBC cares, It made me feel better, just think if enough boaters, dock holders and license buyers did this, maybe someone in Harrisburg would get off their dead****and listen to the concerns of the boaters, and yes it was the lake Erie stamp that prompted my decision to dock in OH, it wasnt the small fee that made my decision, it was the idea of it, I probably went off the deep end because of ZERO benefit to boaters, I would support a trib only stamp for improved access for the stream anglers, that way you have a choice ,not a user fee rammed up your buttocks
