I hate to be the bearer of bad news but can't believe this isn't on here yet.  Looks like it is destroying everything as it started in Wv and there are now reports of dead fish past the 79 bridge at Mt Morris.  What a shame!

Yeah, so what else is new? Eventually, people will be drinking that very same water. No wonder so many kids are born with so many odd problems you rarely ever heard about before.

Some beautiful muskellunge in those pictures. What a shame. Really burns me up. Someone did something illegal, and they ain't fessin' up!

Bummer, looked like some nice muskies in there too. They should have to pay a fine and restock the creek.

No doubt in my mind this is the problem, it has been happening on a smaller scale where ever they dump their water.

Wait til the Marcellus shale project gets going, there will be alot more of these incidents happening!

Never fished that stream, bummer for all of you that do. Hopefully it will get cleaned up and it will make a recovery.

I know that it's already going. From what I have read so far, it has not hit full bore yet. For an example, 660,000 acres %31 of PA state forests were open for drilling but only two wells have been drilled. Another example, In April 2009 the PDEP issued approx. 864 drilling permits for the marcellus shale formation not even a quarter of them has been started yet. Guess I should have wrote "wait til it really gets going"

Exactly, it's been the other way around for way too long.

You guys are right, once the marcellus gets in full stride we all better be watching.

Don't hold the whole state accountable, most of us don't like the mining that goes on either.

Come now Bulldog. You know that the gas companies are highly responsible stewards of the environment. They don't even need those cumbersome, overly enforced, regulations

Prices of Nat. Gas are really low right now.  Great for us who heat with it for this winter and, it is slowing the drilling down, just like oil well drilling when oil prices tank.  Again, I am not against "responsible" drilling or mining with "responsible" being the key word.  If it turns out that this was attributable to gas well drilling (which initial evidence seems to indicate), then it obviously wasn't responsible drilling and the company/companies responsible should be made an example of and fined heavily, made to pay for clean-up and restoration and if it was not an accident, possibly file criminal charges against those directly responsible and ban that company from doing business in PA.  I think that would be a good start.

nah, I think they should just stop them all. The consequences of them screwing up, even on accident, are too great. Find another way, or live without it.

Yeah, who needs heat and energy anyhow?  They are way overrated.

I agree, there is no excuse for contaminating any water source as a result of any activity.

My point was, until we find something that is abundant, able to meet the same energy demands, and generates less pollutants than natural gas; we will continue to rely heavily on it.  There is no avoiding the fact that we NEED the gas and drilling will continue for many years to come.

Just look at coal, and all the AMD and runoff/sedimentation disasters it has created, plenty of examples are right in our back yard in western PA.  We can't stop mining coal though, all we can do is learn from the prior mistakes and be certain to prevent them in the future.

I understand that there will be a need for NG. However there is currently an abundance of supply, hence the low prices. Why not take this time, to do the proper research, on risks, and prevention. There certainly has to be an effective, NON-toxic fracing solution. I'm not sure the industry is motivated to find it. So let's motivate them

In regard to the next to last sentence. There are no doubt those who would love to see drinking water, become the next short supply, high priced, commodity. We are getting closer every day.
