North Park Lake has a bunch of small crappie and bluegill.  Would be hours of entertainment for a youngster.  It is pretty well mantained, with picinic tables, playgrounds, walking trails, and other activities to keep the whole family entertained.  You can rent boats there too.  Might get a hold of some trout or largemouth bass as well as the almost always willing panfish.  The owner of the local baitshop gives good advice on this site every so often.  Do a search on here for North Park Lake, and stop by his shop.  He might be able to point you in the right direction for some of the bigger fish.

Upper lake at North Park, use red worms. Bluegills as fast as you can take the hook off.

Yep, North Park lake my man. Redworms on a small hook, your set!

The weekends usually provide some eye candy as well.

As the others have said North Park is a good bet for you guys.  Don't know where you're located exactly, but Deer Lakes Park in Russelton offers the same kind of fast and furious bluegill action.  Just thought I'd throw that out there in case that's closer for you guys.  Take my 4 year old son & 7 year old daughter there quite a bit and they love it.  There's a playground there for when we're done fishing too.

Any warm night will have them swarming around the lake....
