Fished there last night and noticed a bunch of 4-7" baby musky in the shallows.  Are these naturally spawned in the lake or have they been recently stocked by the PAFBC?

Then either these are naturally spawned, or I've misidentified them...which is certainly not out of the realm of possibility.

According to these records found on the F&BC website, Keystone has only been stocked with tigers which do not reproduce.  I have never fished there so I'm not sure if purebred muskies have ever been stocked there.  More than likely these were just stocked.  From what I have heard that sounds like the size that they stock.  It would increase there chances of survival if stocked at 12" or larger but I guess they have to weigh the cost it takes to feed and raise them to that size.

I was fishing the Beaver RIver this morning and caught a 30' Pike on my first cast and lost a Musky later in the day when he let go of my shiner.  As I was fishing I saw 3 baby Tiger Musky along the shore.  The Smallmouth fishing was off the chain down there today.  I talked to one fellow and he said they were mauling the Sauger on the Beaver River as well.

according to the pfbc, no purebreds have been stocked since 1998.  the fish you saw were probably stocked hybrids.  they stock fingerling (5" to 8") but stock larger purebreds (9" to 12") into certains waters, Pymatuning, Arthur, Woodcock, & Tamarack but stock fingerlings in others.

i was at the Linesville hatchery approx. May and they had 200,000 babies in a tank that they were releasing as fingerlings. They said Sept., so most likely they just stocked.
