After fishing with salmotrutta, I now know my attention to my leader was very poor. After practicing for way to long on blood knots I finally got the hang of tying them... so I feel like I'm ready tie tie some of my own.

My question is what brand of leader material do you guys get and where do you buy it from.

If you guys have any favorite formulas or any tips for a newbie I'm always willing to take advice.

I use P-Line,for Steel,12,10,8, then 6lb. Seagar Carbon Ice. For stockies,8,6,4, then 6x or 7x for a tippet

For steelhead I have been using Maxima for the butt and mid sections of the leader and then Rio FluoroFlex for the front and tippet.

For trout and bass (and any other fish that will bite) I use Maxima for the entire leader and use Rio PowerFlex for the tippet.

Also, try double and triple surgeons knots. They are very simple to tie and I have had good luck with them, even on some big steels.

Brian,

I like George Harvey's leader formula. Not sure atm where I have it tucked away.

Not sure if everyone does this but I have a buddy who coats his knots with Daves Flexament, so you dont accumulate crap on you're knots. He also goes over the upper knots with white, then orange model paint so he has his built in strike indicator.
