have any of you guys ever used a ladybug pattern? i have seen a million of the little critters in the last few days. do steelhead eat them?

From a trout's eye view, they'd be pretty much the same as any black beetle pattern. I think they produce some kind of chemical that makes them taste bad. You'd still probably get a few fish on them!

They've been found in the stomachs of steelhead.

They taste awful... :) Thats na good question. I have never read about alady bug pattern...or heard of heavy grazing on them. With their numbers you would think it would really create a stir...

I've tried a lady bug pattern a year or two ago on teh trout around my home with no takes. I got to the point that i was throwing the actually bugs in the water to see if there was any reaction, but the fish seemed to ignore them.

Ive seen some extremely realistic ladybug patterns somewhere ...  Just cant remember where.  If I do I'll post again.   Heres One I found while searching.
