I used google earth...you can actually see people in the tribs.No kidding.

It depends on the trib. The bigger, more populated areas; Oswego, Rochester, ect; will give you much higher resolution images then tiny tribs in the middle of nowhere. I've tried getting quite a few tribs on Google Earth that won't even show up because the resolution isn't good enough in those rural areas.

You can get a detailed map of the Salmon River if you want one. Check out Fat Nancy's Tackle Shop. I believe they are $5 and well worth it if you ever plan on fishing there.
