I fished it today and caught some nice rainbows as usual.  I don't know where, how, or when they stock that place, but there's always trout to be caught.  I'm not even sure how good the trout population is down river, but seems to be pretty good closer to the dam.  I'm usually fishing somewhere else or don't get up there when the other bites are going on up there.  I hear that depending on the time of year, walleye and hybrid fishing can be good.  Saw alot of fish jumping besides carp and looked like alot of baitfish were being chased.  Almost looked like either big fish or schools of fish were chasing baitfish.

That hatchery is a federal hatchery.  The feds will not stock anything but brookies in PA waters.

Keep in mind that you can keep two trout over 14" there.Plenty or rainbows, and the fishing is just as good downstream, take the walk sometime,it's worth it.

I don't think they ever raised browns there. They did have some big breeder lake trout. The rainbows came from a stocking of I believe 100,000 fingerlings a couple years ago.

The fish in the resiviour above the dam are the ones that survived being sucked up when they fill the thing for power generation. Every so often they have drained it for repairs and put the fish they get back in the dam or tailwaters. Some of them get to be real hogs.

I never thought about fish getting sucked up top.  Thats a bit of a haul.  I wonder how many survive getting sucked up there and how beat up they are when they get there.

Sounds like you're doing better than me. My best day so far this year is 3 fish. All browns  (not counting dinks).
Here's a list for fingerling stockings from the last few years.

Not true.
Kinzua Creek recieved brown and rainbow trout last June or July from the Lamar, Pa National Fish Hatchery.
So did some other streams in PA.

A lot of them get chewed up on the ride up. That's why the ones that make it get big and fat in a hurry. The first time they drained the round top the few of us fishing the tailwaters that summer all of a sudden started catching browns, rainbows and a few walleye in the 24-28" range that looked like footballs. Took awhile before we found out why. Sure was fun while it lasted.

Double check those stockings.  It is the policy of the feds to only stock native species.

Anyway the Kinzua hatchery is mostly lake trout for Erie.

It happened, policy or not. Quite a bunch of em', too.
These trout were being raised by the Feds for the PFBC.

I have been fishing the race for almost 30 years.
being that the area below the dam is now trophy trout i think they stock it periodically
i have seen both rainbows and browns stocked.
There are huge browns in that river they do best in deep winter
there are huge walleye
the river can be tough and is underfished
In all seriousness I beleive its probably the best river in the eastern part of the country for trout but it is and can be tough to get the big ones
lots of feed in that water
