I don't see the need for extended drifts like that with a pin anyways... Sometimes I pin while my friends fly fish, and most of the time(unless Loomis is downstream of me) I utilize the same water coverage as they. There are some misconceptions about these stellar drifts, it's not all downstream oriented. I cast upstream and use my finger to retrieve enough needed to keep all line off water, then drift directly under the float at 12:00, and then the normal fly/spin drift downstream. Only a handful of times have I drifted an entire stretch...unless, like I said, Loomis is trying to high stick. I also only use a 9 ft float rod opposed to the 11-13 like most pinners do, thus making really long drifts difficult for hook sets.
