So for all the talk of Jason Bay at the trading deadline and all the junk in the media about how Bay would crack in Boston and how he can't handle pressure...  He's not doing too bad eh?

In 49 games, he had 184 AB.  With those at bats, he hit .293 with 54 hits, 9 of which were homers, and 12 doubles and 2 triples.  Most significant is his.390 OBP and 39 runs scored.

Hows this for a crazy stat, the Sox winning percentage with Manny: .560, with Bay...  .642.

He also hit .500 with a 2 run homer and a double in last night's 4-1 over the Angels.

I'm happy for Jason Bay, I'm tickled pink for him that he got out of the cesspool that is the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Bay has always been great except for the half of a year he played with a bum knee.  Just leaving the Bucs will probably give him enough of an emotional lift to become one of the games elite.  I'm glad he left, and I'm a Pirates fan.  He deserved better than the Pirates.

About the only thing better than seeing Bay finally get to play for a contender, is seeing him playing for my favorite team!

Red Sox all the way!

Who?

Plenty of media sources across the country.  I read plenty of little snippets about the guy from the little team that couldn't and how he won't be able to handle the pressure of a big club.  How he's ever going fill the shoes of the Manny Ramirez.  How are the Red Sox going to compete with the upper crust of the AL with Bay instead of Manny, blah blah blah.

One example that sticks out was our boy Scott Paulson on PLC or whatever they call thier show.  The day after Bay went 0-7 in a 13 inning game, his comment was "I figured he'd fold under the pressure in Boston".  To which the person they were talking to informed him that the night before, Bay hit a 2 out 2-run homer in the bottom of the 8th to take a 3-2 lead.  Don't have other specifics, but they're all of the same variety.

Oh and I'm not talking about you D if that's what you're getting at.  I remember you post to the effect wondering how he'd handle it, but that was all it was.

Why are there more Red Sox fans in this town than Pirates fans?

Oh yeah, most people like a major league team...  Just kind of strange that it's the Red Sox though.  My theory is the hate for the Yankees.  But what is really the difference between the two clubs?  NY is a much cooler town than Boston too.

Jason Bay did choke a good bit around here.  So, the thoughts of him doing it in Boston are pretty legitimate if you ask me.  He seemed to be a good guy, so I hope he turned it around.

This sounds like much more fun than the MLB playoffs...

Oh, I meant, who is Jason Bay?

I mean, the name rings a bell, but I can't place it.

I actually grew up a Sox fan, my old man is from East Wapole, Mass.  So it was cool to be able watch the 2004 WS win with him.  Last years was just gravey.  And like any other good team, the fan base grows, there's plenty of Yankee fans around the city too.

Plus if you followed the Red Sox, you'd understand.  It's not a team and it's fans, it's a culture.

How did Jason Bay choke around here? You can't choke unless you get to play in important games.

Amen to that statement. The only time a choke might be considered in my opinion could have been the home run derby at the all star game. In his defense there a lot of other big time hitters have come up short in that event though.

Well, you do have a point there...

I'd like to see his batting average with men on, or 2 outs, or 7th+ inning.  I'm sure they are kept somewhere, but don't feel like looking.  It appeared that just about any time that I watched him (which has declined year to year since he was here...) he was a much better hitter in non pressure situations.

You've got to admit though.  There are more Red Sox embloms around than any other non-Pittsburgh based team.

I can understand those, like yourself that have ties.  I'm guessing that more are the culture thing though.

I guess my real stink comes from the emblom representing a town as well.  Which is the only reason that I wear Pirate hats, that and to keep the sun out of my eyes, not have to comb my hair, and a place for my fishing license...

If it weren't for my hatred of the Patriots, I probably wouldn't even notice.

My love for the RedSox started when I was about 12.  The Pirates had just traded Barry Bonds and my cousin looked at me and told me to pick an American League "Alternate" team to like.  He seemed to think the Pirates would disappoint in the following seasons, and man was he ever right! With my alternate team, I never have to worry about them ruining my childhood teams (Pirates) season.  Unless they should happen to meet up in World Series.  And we all know that's going to happen.    I do like when interleague schedule allows them to play each other.  Guess I just pretend it's the series!

true story. i was born in boston.  even over the last 8 or so years when the patriots won all those super bowls and all those games, the only sports team the people in that town talked about was the red sox....it's an obsession

I don't know why everyone isn't jumping on the Devil Rays bandwagon. They pretty much have been a joke for as long as they've been a franchise, but look at em' now.

Even being a Yankees fan I'm tired of seeing the big pay roll guys snatching up all the decent players and not relying one bit on their minor league organization. Now, take the Yankees for example. This year they've been relying alittle too much on their young guys. What ever happened to that guy, Pettite, he should of won more games. Bullpen is unstable, but if we're winning by one call the sandman.

I really like Terry Francona, secretly. He seems like a cool guy and has ties in the Beaver County area if I'm correct. The Red Sox are "fine" with me, but 3 rings recently? Give another guy a shot.

With the devil rays being good not sure if Longoria is easy to sign. Fine player but money can drive you into another town. I really hope people start rooting for them and also teams like the Marlins. Who are at the bottom of the line in Money, but really play good with what they have.

I don't mind the Rays actually, I've been waiting for them to fall apart all season, but they have stuck in there and kept up with the best teams in the AL.  Their pitching staff might be the best in the AL.  Of course if they meet up with the Sox in the playoffs, all bets are off.

Sox and Rays eh?  This is going to be a great series.  I hate to say it, but the Rays might actually be the team that moves on.  It all depends on their pitching.  The Sox pitching is fine, Dice K, Lester, Beckett (Even though he looked horrible the other night) are all proven "pressure pitchers", the Rays not just yet.  If the Rays pitching is up to the task, this is going to be hard series for the Sox to take.  So it's the first time in the ALCS against the been there done that Sox.  Should be a good one.  No Mike Lowell though, he broke a hip last game, and that's not an old person joke, he seriously jacked up his hip...  Osteoporosis is a bitch...  (ok, that was on old person crack)

i don't think beckett looked horrible.  he wasn't the beckett of last year, but he only gave up 4 runs in 5 innings and almost had a chance for a W if the sox scored in the bottom of the fifth.  surprisingly, the rays are still in the playoffs and are actually a good team, so they actually could somehow go to the world series, but i stillll don't think they will.

Wow! Look at that! I'm with you, this'll be interesting. Think about this... Phillies vs. Rays in the world series. Now that's going to be interesting!
