Hi all,
Anybody been to high point lately. If so, I was thinking of trying to head up there this weekend and was wondering what the water level was like.
Are you able to get a boat out on it and hows the fishing been?

Thanks tank38,,,,,

I went up there today to look around. I tried to measure how low the water is and i'd estimate a little over 2 vertical feet. Lots of weeds. It looks like it should be good throwing weedless frogs thru the weeds in the evening but the few casts i made resulted in no hits.

One 16 ? foot boat was being trailered on the north launch when i was there and they said they had to use waders to get it on/off. On the south launch there was one truck with a low trailer that apparently got the boat off but the south launch didn't look good to me unless you really got the tow vehicle in the water.

A little brezzy also.

Has anybody said why they are dropping the water so much? And are they going to continue to drop it.

It was about 1 foot low during ice fishing season and has continued to come down a little. I called the fish commission in april and was told they are doing some work and after labor day they hoped to draw it down more to either finish the work or kill some weeds or maybe both. They said they planned on allowing fishing during the drawdown.

Hopefully the drawdowns will work there as good as they have at somerset. High Point used to be my favorite lake to fish, but in the last 15 years or so i usually only ice fish it. To me the current ice fishing for pike is better than it has ever been but panfish and walleye are terrible.

A long time ago my brother in law and i went up there ice fishing for pike/walleye and before the sun came up we had went through 50 shiners catching short walleye. We went and got more shiners and never got another walleye. If i remember right the largest crappie and perch i have ever caught both came from there. Anymore i don't even waste my time trying to catch a 5 inch perch thru the ice.

Anyone getting a legal perch there now deserves a fish citiation. A friend did catch some nice crappies thru the ice 2 winters ago, but i don't think he ice fished there last winter.
