We played our last game of the season yesterday and had a player recieve a hard red card. Does this suspension carry over to next year ? No one has been able to give me a straight answer, not even the two refs at the game.

Yes. If he graduates, his college has to carry it over as well.

Tnaks, I've been trying to find it on the NHFS site, but can not find a ruling... I doubt they will keep track as well, but don't want to risk a forfiet if we would win and somebody found out.

I agree with px. I think it should, but PIAA will have no idea. What was the card for, may I ask? The reffing this year was some of the worst I can remember, but usually too lenient. My son got leveled at the 6 on a break away and the ref yells "play on", I'm all for contact but blatant take outs with no play on the ball should be called EVERY time. What school? Just incase we play you in your first game next year

Agressive? I love a good clean agressive game, but there are reasons for red cards. I agree a red should be a red no hard or soft about it, that's why they have yellows.

PIAA refs are complete sh!t.  they're basketball, football and volleyball refs that want to make some extra cash.  for christ's sake, they use a football ref's signal (both hands on hips, just like tackle football) when making offsides calls.  it's so lame.  i had a ref for a soccer game on a thursday, then he was the back judge at our football game that friday night.  clueless in both arenas...

i got three red cards in my playing career.  one against kiski prep, last defender, tackle from behind, got none of the ball, studs up...  earned it, plus the three game suspension that the WPIAL added on.  it was very stupid of me.  one against canevin, was a "soft red" for two yellows.  hard but clean tackle that the ref's didnt understand.  then the second was for pushing a kid after he kicked the ball away when i was trying to take a quick free kick.
in college i got one for intentional handball in the box...  i was on the goaline while our half retarded goalie was crawling around the box in the mud. it was a reaction.  got to watch the first round of playoffs from the stands...

duud... thankyou

I couldn't agree more. It's a joke, not only do they not know the rules but they've never played so they don't know how to interpret them. We had a guy call holding and tripping, and of course all the hand signals followed them.

The card was for arguing with the ref about a call, yes thats right, hard red, no warning.
I'm not telling what school, he was our 2nd leading scorer this year...........

I must agree with the refs being bad in the WPIAL. Some of the worst officiating ever, all year long too. The two ref system is a joke, how can they possibly see an offsides play from trailing the play by 20 yards ??? They can't, so they error on the side that they must have been off. Sure you can request 3 refs, but my school district is not going to schell out another $1600 a year for an extra ref. Out of 16 games this year, we only had a good ref. I mean if I can see the foul from my sideline, how in the heck didn't they. The issue is when they don't make the calls they should they game gets chippier & chippier until it gets out of hand.
I too think the soft red is total bull, whats the point....

have the kid change his number next year and don't worry about it... We did it in hockey all the time. We had a couple extra jerseys and if someone got a game suspension we didn't feel warranted, we would just throw on one of the other jerseys on and play. it's REALLY bad in the rec leagues and adult leagues now... LOL

that's why i play hockey now.  i use the term "play" lightly.  i'm on the ice, and people are skating around, mostly past me...

I hear that, I retired from adult league play last year. I'm a GK, so diving around on the turf at 39 is not to good on my out of shape body. My wife drew the line when I had to call off work for a recreational sports injury. I am one of the assistant high school coaches for a WPIAL Section 5A team. If the rule says the kids gotta sit his 1st game next year, than so be it, We're not gonna break the rules. We will just have to make sure or AD schedules us a non section game 1st.That way it might only affect our overall record and not our section one. We just had the All Section meeting last night and two of our kids made it and one got honorable mention so we're proud of that. Plus we tripled our win total from last year and missed the playoff by only one win. So, we are headed in the right direction, our program has been pretty bad for years and its nice to see it finally turning around. We just took over coaching the team last year, so it's a work in progress. I gave enough hints, you might be able to figure out which school. Thanks for the info.

i think i know what school based on a previous post you had about HS soccer...  but my lips are sealed.  congrats nonetheless.  i actually just resigned from coaching before the fall season from a club team.  best decision i've made in a while.  i was tired of all the BS from parents, players, refs, and club admins...

This was my first year not coaching, having coached for about 10 years, I never thought it would be so hard to watch when not coaching. I still do all the twisting and pseudo kicking, just in the stands now instead of on the sidelines. And I work very hard at not criticizing coaching decisions, after all if I had wanted to coach I could have been and I always hated people second guessing my decisions. At least now I can yell at officials without getting a card..... well most of the time anyway.

Most forget about it, most arent filed unless you did something that warrents an apology written to the school and the ref. which i had to do my senior year during district 5 semi finals. may he rest in peace but thank god Kerns isnt around to ref anymore he was by far the worst.

cards only carry over during that season. its not like the FA where they rule wether its a single game suspention or a 3 game.

If i quit coaching the only person that would be happy is my wife. She b!tches about it all the time. " You go to soccer 6 days a week, you never have to for the family", blah, blah. blah.. Yes, my family time is limited, but I make the most of it when I have the chance, I do as much with my kids that I can, because I know my time is limited.
I'd end up still going to most of the games and it is SO hard to watch a game from the stands when almost every game I saw over the last 20 years I was on the sideline or playing.
When my coaching carrer is over, its on to refereeing baby, HS refs & up make good money. In HS you can earn up to $600 a week if you have the time. Thats easy $$$$, I couldn't be any worse than the majority of the ones we had this past year !!!!!!!
Well, since the season is over now I got about two more days of "no soccer". Our indoor season starts Monday, and our "Voluntary/Mandatory" 3 day a week off season weight lifting starts in two weeks. OH, then there is Club ball this spring, followed by more "Voluntary/Mandatory" pre season conditioning, that runs 5 days a week, until camp officially starts next August... Hmmm, I can see why the wifey might be upset with me.
Ohhh, I forgot the best part. I get to coach two more teams next Fall as well. My oldest moves up to U8 and my youngest starts U6
Yeah ! Now I got to squeeze those practices and games in along with all of the HS stuff. Goody, Goody.....
I'd love to quit, I don't know what free time is anymore. But I can't. I love it too much.

U10 was my favorite, competetive soccer but not cut throat, only lost one game in two years. I may have to coach a U16 team this spring, so my "coaching career" may not be over after all. $600 a week? I may have to check that out, I could do it without my glasses and not be any worse that what I've seen this season.
