I am a fly fisherman from San Diego, CA.. My wife (who also fly fishes) and I will be out in the Slippery Rock area late July and early August for a Medieval War at Coppers Lake Campground. We hope to get out a couple of days for some smallmouth bass fly fishing. We don't have smallies in Southern California. We are both strict C&R fisherman. We were hoping some of you would be willing to share your knowledge regarding places to try, what color and type flies to use. Or anything else you think might be helpful. I wouldn't expect anyone to give up their honey holes of course. Can anyone suggest a good or any fly shop in the general area too. Thank you for any and all help!

Status: offline 		Ahh, more raping and pillaging at Coopers Lake!  One day I must check that place out as it grows each year!  Do they still have the last day nude swim in the lake?

Neshannock Creek is a great place to fish too, mostly trout and pike though.

Wolf Creek near Slippery Rock has great smallmouth fishing and you could use olive, black or white woolly buggers or practically any streamer.  Smallies are attack fish and they hit quick and hard and fight well for their size.

Status: offline 		Wooly buggers and streamers, try where slippery rock creek crosses rt. 422,nice deep hole downstream of the bridge, holds a few trout also.

I have spent some time fishing for smallmouth with a fly.  they like movement, marabou, and current seems.

Wooley buggers will be recommended.  but do not ignore other large streamers (I've done well with a zonker),  the clouser minnow, weighted muddler minnow, large nymphs to imitate helgrimmites, and crawfish imitations (pay more attention to action that just realism).

Smallmouths like poppers as well!  Espacially if you see alot of action near the top of the water.

Just some thoughts!  welcome to the board.

Status: offline 		If you can get some time to "escape" its hard to beat a lot of the stretches of French Creek in Crawford County as well as several stretches of the Allegheny in Venango County.

Why, are you the new welcome wagon?  The festival at Coopers Lake has been going for years and the many tales with it!  At last light, some nude swimming was said to be had by the bravest of knights and ladies!

How does parking work there?  Is it ok to just park off to the side of the road?   I sure don't want to get towed. Someone mentioned fishing "where slippery rock creek crosses rt. 422".  Where would one park in that situation.  I looked at it on Google Earth and it doesn't look like there is any where to park.

What are the  water/land rights in PA.?  I don't want anyone getting mad at me wading down the river which borders their land.

Sorry for the dumb questions.  I'd just like to do some fishing without any problems.

If you can think of any thing else I should know please pass it on.
