You can do it you jsut have to go about it the right way. First, if you use a leader/mainline setup you want to have a thin leader I would reccomend some good flourocarbon tippet for fly fishing which I'm sure that any of the bait shops in the area can guide you to a good brand they carry. Next, there is a reason that fly line is weighted, flys are not. Also do not expect to get the hits you see bait anglers getting with there floats getting completly sunken under. Almost always it will be a small twich, in clear water it may be just a quiver. This brings up your choice in floats. It has to be big enough to support enough weight to make it heavy enough to make casting easy but small enough to be sensitive. A noodle rod is very suitable for this method and try to do as the fly fishers do and you should do fine.
